Hi guys, been following this board for a while now and really learned a lot.
I'm planning on doing a mech TDI swap in my mk1 Caddy and at this moment I'm just scavenging parts needed for the conversion.
I will use a AHU as base to start from.
I recently scored this refurbished pump from a Opel/Vauxhall Omega/Frontera for a merely 25 euro's

The number is 0 0460 404 so it has a 10mm Plunger.
You might have noticed that the cable leverage is pulling at the backside and the advancepot as also at the back.
My question now is is it possible to transfer it to the front? Or is it possible to just remove that advance thing and what advantage disadvantage will this have ?
Any help suggestion is welcome...

that thing is wacky :lol: ,we dont get pumps that have drives like that and stuff,that advance thing,,,,all the good stuff is in europe,, :cry: ,,i will tell you though,,im using a 12mm,and race 520 kerma nozzles,,highly recomended,,its very torquey,,,i dont really like gas engines anymore :D diesels rule,,im using a 84 jetta 1.6 td trans,code 7A,,,dont know what you can get,,find taller,cause of all the power, itllpull like a train,,im easily in 5th at a little more than halfway in the 1/4 ,,need more gear

Thnx for your reply, I have been following your topic. I want my engine to run first and then later do the upgrade to bigger plunger etc..
Here in Europe even the AAZ 1.9TD has that advance thing.
I will use a TDI Trans, code CTN with the bowdencable shifting,and cableclutch conversion,100mm CV. What I have heard is that they can handle 500Nm Torque so that should be sufficient. I still need to do the math on the gearratios .

I still have to drill and tap the hole for the thermocouple and connect it to the EGT Gauge..
Boost gauge works fine, running 0.7bar boost with the KKK/K14. Will soon up the boost.

I think that pump is left hand rotation, opposite of the VW.

I've seen pumps (peugeot, I think) with that kind of input drive gear. It mounts to the tapered end of the input shaft just like a VW diesel pulley, indexed to the shaft with a woodruff key. If you zip that that nut off with an impact wrench, you should be able to pull that drive gear off. Before fitting a VW pulley to the input shaft, make sure it has the same woodruff key width. I've seen them vary, and the VW IDI Diesel application seems to have a narrower woodruff key width than can be found on some other VE pumps.
I was wondering if that pump rotates the same direction as the VW Diesel pump. It seems like it may be opposite from VW application, because the timing advance mechanism appears to be "backwards".
If you know what you are looking for, you can tell whether the pump is reverse operating sometimes from the pump identification numbers/letters. If it doesn't rotate the direction it is designed to, it won't deliver any fuel.

actually,yea we did have a pugeot,whatever engine in the shop it powered a piece of equipment,,and i noticed that the pump looks similar,,,,,try the race 520 nozzles too they are $$ but worthit,,,,

I was wondering the same thing, but from the info I gathered is that Opel/Vauxhall engines are all right hand rotation just as VW.
From what number or letter would I be able to tell the rotation ?This is all that can be read on the pump:
