What does the turbo plaque say? Looks like a t3 or k24.
-
I can't see one on it.
-
Size wise, def looks like t3 or k24...I would not say a stock turbo..
-
Yea never seen that style of wastegate on a 1.6. Pherhaps it's a k14 some versions had that wastegate.
-
The oil feed line suggests retrofit...
-
on the 1st pic.... are those the bolt heads that hold it to the manifold between the waste gate rod and hot section?? never seen vw have verticle flange.....................

yeah they are. this is nothing like the turbo's I have.
-
quantium/vanagon bolt to bottom... mk1-3 mount on like a 45* slope... bolt in thru the bottom of manifold into the turbo (its threaded)...
you got my attention... what is it...
-
I am guessing a T2 oil cooled?
-
all i can guess.. its a prtoto td from 81ish.. too much cast iron parts to not be designed that way.. and have toilet bowel part.. but they changed the exhaust manifold design.. and we got the mk1-aaz top mount stuff...

I am guessing a T2 oil cooled?
Odd, from my perspective, it looks oil cooled, and very similar in ways to my K14. I wouldn't say it was one, but I 'm no expert on any model besides mine ;D
-
only an oil line, so it has to be oil cooled.

Wierd, I coulda swore theman posted "air" in his mesage and now it says "oil" thus making my subsequent post sound redundant.
A mod can't change a post that's been quoted can he?
Maybe I misread it the first time.

This is what I thought.

It is a Garrett T2 version called TB0261, part number 465577-1, used on 1.9TD

Alcaid, they are comparable to the k14 right?
-
thanks.
-
Yes, comparable to K14
-
Nailed it!
-
Is the T2 smaller than the T3 ?
I have been looking for a smaller turbo(to spool quicker) for my Fox wagon
which has an 85 quantum 1.6TD with a T3
Thanks,Mike
-
Yes it is smaller and spools faster although it is slow for it's size anyway... K03 or GT1544 from 1Z or AHU TDI engines are newer turbos that spool faster and can be had with bolt on manifolds.

A mod can do a lot more than you think, including deleting your posts if he doesn't like it.
Maybe I misread it the first time.

If a mod modifies a message it will say in the message at the bottom "Last Edit: Today at 02:35:43 PM by theman53 "
I didn't touch the old comment, as it would show that I did. I will post this and modify it to show the point.
should show up down here.

No biggey - I'm sure I mis-read your post. Don't know why it was even brought up again.
