i just gave a guy link to the registration who is into vw diesels.. rover diesels and is in ohio...
-
he has a kubvan... wants to tdi it... tells me how he brings rover pumps back via airplane when he visits..
he plans to visit uk in next few weeks.... so rover pump people.. you need to speak up.. last time no one wanted to buy them...
-
I'd be interested. What type of price?
-
Me too. The wife is all for the jeep project and thinks we need a fuel pump for it. I would probably put it on the 1.6 and keep my 12mm for the jeep...but I could get it as just like guitars, all pumps look the same in the case :D
-
The 300TDI pumps from EGR equipped engines come with a great TPS that can be used to run a stand alone VNT controller... :-D
-
but the 300 are usually ECU driven no?
-
nope.. got a 300 one on mine with tps.. :P
why i told him to join people... to discuss price and so on.. he has a friend who can try out rover running stuff before pulling them... IMO known running pump value exceeds guess if it runs...
he also has a stash of idi here in ohio.. last time he went to the uk he brought back 2 rover pumps and a few 6 idi ones with his carry on luggage.. (if i did not mess this story up)
he says his garage in uk full of pumps, turbos and such as diesel there has no value vs here..
myke_w wants a pd 150 intake.. so ill hook myke up with his # to do those arrangements... but unless he knows he can sell the stuff he is on the how much do i spend and what to bring back issue...
i myself would do list with non refundable deposites... once in the usa.. then finilize it all... but he in ne ohio.. good for lucas... me and even bbob..
its the "source" we have needed.. he is a diesel nut... and not just vw.. even izuzu (sp??) and such he is into...
good phone guy after you get use to the language differances.. and well worth a oppertunity..
-

The IDI Giles pump will need work to run your DI properly my man, not just a bolt on and go operation.
but the 300 are usually ECU driven no?
nope.. got a 300 one on mine
There are Mechanical and ECU driven 300TDI just as there are Mechanical and ECU driven 1.9L in our continent ;). I too have a 300tdi pump on my AHU. No TPS though.
-
Can you run the tps one without hooking it up? And can the govmod be performed?
-
Can you run the tps one without hooking it up? And can the govmod be performed?
Yes, and Yes.
-
Done, and done
-
my tps wire is tied out the way.. but will work for any variable type throttle item...
did gov mod on mine... but i think libby says it not needed... never tried with no mod to see..
-
Yup, the TPS does nothing but read the throttle position, it doesn't interact with the function of the pump in any way.
The ECU equipped 300TDIs were only found in vehicles with automatic transmissions. I believe it was an electronic transmission so it necessitated an electronic engine.
-
Sounds good. What type of price do these bad boys go for? So I can make sure my wife doesnt see that amount is missing.
-
there is huge range of prices.. seen them for 50 on ebay uk... but those look crappy and you have no idea if its good or not...
so id assume price will vary with condition and known if good or not..
myself.. id pay best price for known good running one.. 8v would pay cheapest price as he can fix one if bad...
the goal is he joins, you all show him love that this forum has to offer and dont be flakey...
he is imo the uk contact we need here.. we lack one.. and he sounds like he wants to start a business of some sort doing this... but his first try was a fail... places like tdi club would be a fail... here.. it will make him a great home...
-

My Giles pump was not in the equation. I would put the 11mm pump on the IDI, keep the 12mm that is on the bench for the Jeep, and sell the Giles pump with the TDI head.
What I was saying is if you have a new guitar and put it in a case you cannot tell it is different...and all the bosch pumps look almost the same on the outside :D
-
Well let me know when he is going and what you/ wants from me. I am torn with good or bad. I have faith that if I did get a bad one(seals wise) I could fix, as long as its like our idi pumps. I've torn those down, and built them again.
I agree it would be nice to have a UK supplier.
-
seal issues come from low sulfur fuels.... uk... good quality vs usa fuel... and i bet their sulfur content better.. :D why a known to run one has imo best value...
he supposed to be going in few weeks...
he is diesel4life on the kubvan forum in my sig (could join there).. but i hope he sent a email and is waiting for his acct here.. he has no amount of posts there.. and dislikes alot of forums... this place will be new experiance.. :D sadly i think the kubvan forum may not approve of his "tdi" upgrade (have a few who dislike mine)... here he will be accepted... and since he going m with it tdi club will not accept him...
but phone call.. man guy has seen odd euro diesels we have not... worked on them... and he is doing his own tdi-m build... in a kubvan.. :D
him being a source of euro diesel knowledge = win.. him having uk contacts/trips = win
90% active users here = great fit... i hope the other 10% do not annoy him with stupid silly flakey stuff..
i am hoping to see his knowledge on some of the silly jeep/euro v6 td idi info.. down in the little area only few post.. and real info lacks.. :D

Makes sense.
-
I need to do some research, but I'm feeling giddy about the potential here...
-
it is also my understanding that 1.6 pumps over there had a higher lift cam plate.
i question how much ulsd causes pumps to leak, i think ever since they switched when ever someones pump leaks they blame it on ulsd. i only ever had one pump leak and it was 4-5 years after the switch. my dad has had the same pump on his 85 td since atleast 2003.
-
i also wonder, are there any issues with running a di pump on an idi
-
What? Making a eIDI? Very interesting.
-
What? Making a eIDI? Very interesting.
No i think he just meant running steeper cam plate, stiffer springs and bigger pump head.
-
lucas thinking the di on idi...
1st switch was 90/93... too many sprung leaks that "farm fuel" would stop the leak... then if you nursed it that way seem to stay leak free... and not needed in years... my b3 pump is a example of this... not has farm fuel in it in long time...
i think my rover pump just started leaking.. been on us crap 3rd summer... but i just got 60+ gal of dark cherry red fuel... :P someone just converted from home heating oil to nat gas... figured out 1 tanks feed was plugged up god knows how long.. other tanks fuel ws bright pink... he thought he has 5-10 gal of fel... over 120 gal... for $30...(good karma = gave 45 or so gal to lady who uses homeheating oil still) :D im going to bottle feed the rover pump on the cherry red to see if it stops leaking.. fill it and let it sit while cold out...
-

yeah i just meant, like a rover pump on an idi.
but an eidi would be interesting to see, i don't think it would be very hard if you threw aaz internals and head on a tdi block/crank, i am pretty sure bmw had an injector that would work in place of the odd tdi injector, even if it didn't i'd imagine it would be easy to eliminate that sensor from the software, or find another way to get that injector signal.
-
what are pd 150 manifolds worth??
-
it is also my understanding that 1.6 pumps over there had a higher lift cam plate.
Possibly, I'd use a 3.15mm lift AAZ plate.
i also wonder, are there any issues with running a di pump on an idi
I see no issue at all. Just the size of the plunger may over fuel it.. My rover pump had the exact same profile cam plate that all the 1.6 pumps I've had open had.. Meaning, same ramp and duration for injection. (I believe) An 11mm rover pump in stock form would run an IDI (1.5, 1.6 or 1.9) no problem, just WAY MORE fueling potential.

Eliminating it would be redundant I would think.. It tells the ECU and thus the pump exactly when the injection is taking place. Without that, I would think it would not have the ability to alter timing and injection properly. Just a thought though.
what are pd 150 manifolds worth??
I think I got mine from Europe for like $135 shipped.

well we got together and very interesting guy... i showed him this thread to motivate him joining more...
we discussed how burnt toast is just freeken perfect on ride height vs look vs function.. but its also like supergluing duct tape and trying to rip it off with no pain... he has title issues.. and hard to invest in his kubvan till solution... dead guy crap.. but his goals nice... i see a new member for madness weekend.. likes cross country trips and such.. his plans will make it nice for trips.. even got into discussions of pop tops.. :P he started that topic even.. i mentoned on a thread hear couple mo ago.. nice to have such conversations with others.. im not the only one nuts..
-
Over in the UK is it easier to find mk2 air box setups? If so I wouldn't mind him picking one of those up... They are so rare over here and I have no idea why...
-
us td numbers very low vs na...
diesels were 85,86,few 87, 89, 90, 91
td 85,86,few 87, no golfs i know were
eco was 90,91,92 and again no golfs...
for that also.. i cannot say ive ever seen a stock big window golf diesel either...
-
well lucas got the one that was in cleveland... yea one was here...
some miscommunications.. sadly.. they need to have told me things before the transaction.. been seeing ideas and such... and lucas really is set up for mock test fitting.. just i do not think the 2 of them knew they need to use eachother..
i saw pic of aaz 2 piece style pully mocked to the rover hub.. i think it will work.. :P i just do not know yet who has it.. :P my emails were gotten after...
but ideas of exchange mounts, pre modded w/core charges and pully system that will work are also gettiing thought of.. so the swap time is more bolt on now vs need to do.. will be extra charge type of option.. but he making shopping list
-
I have a spare Rover hub if anyone wants it for experimenting...
The offset of the Rover hub is definitely different from the ALH hub. I'd imagine the AAZ hub is probably the same as the ALH hub.
BTW regarding brackets - an individual on the TDIClub forum is trying to put together a kit to fit large snout pumps on small snout engines - includes a modified bracket and a shaved down pulley to fit inside the stock timing cover:
http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=399537
He hasn't included the back plate of the timing cover though. And his price is a bit on the high side...
-
Bosch part number is
0460414080, or last 3 digits 099,098,069,136,194,205
These are some of the part #s to the pumps you are looking for.
-
yea i got way less in my custom pully and the bracket mod.. and as i told the guy.. doing it via core with only a little profit on the part.. does take time to do so he needs something.. but my thought on price way less.. and more of a i can have it now vs i can get mine machined tomarrow aspect.. if a normal machine shop is 20-50$ exceeding that too much = fail... and i had $100 in my custom gear.. and vs trying to find mk4 style hub was well worth it..
-
Yeah that was kind of my thought too. I dropped my bracket, pulley and timing cover off at a shop on Friday, should be ready this afternoon. Didn't actually ask about price but I bet it's less than $175.
On the Rover pumps - the ones with a built-in TPS are fantastic if you ever plan on doing anything VNT-wise... I think that's the -099 version.
-
I didn't have my pulley shaved down, as I don't run upper covers. My shop charged me $65 to bore the bracket.
The guy on TDI Club wanted $125 + core.

so how does 450 shipped sound?? they are comming off running engines so not topen to enviroment..
speak up.. pm me your email so i can pass it onto the guy..
-
The offset of the Rover hub is definitely different from the ALH hub. I'd imagine the AAZ hub is probably the same as the ALH hub.
The offset on the AAZ hub may be the same, but the shaft diameter is smaller and so the AAZ hub and ALH hub do not interchange. The Rover hub offset is wrong as well as the hole alignment and so it won't work without a fair bit of machining.
Easiest/cheapest is to get a core ALH pump off eBay, pull the hub and sell the core on eBay for pretty much what you bought it for...
-
since i was banned on the day i had bumped this... i have not heard from anyone.. need to speak up.. guy wants to come back to the us soon...
-
What about complete rover motors? I have a Disco I that I'd love to swap, but I can't justify the cost of adapters, etc... If I could find a complete rover setup, it would make my year.
-
the motors are apparently junk hence why so many in yards in europe.
-

I always wondered why I see them so cheap on ebay.uk....now I know. Makes sense, I guess.
-
the disco 2.5 tdi 200 and 300 are not junk thay can be pron to HG blowing , i have seen some at 300tho i have 2 about 200tho and still run strong and start first crack of the key , there are bigger motor than the vw 1.9diesel ,124hp ish stock , some do go wrong but a beter motor than the vw PD motor that are real junk what was vw thinking with the PD a backward step from the 1.9 tdi ,
-
he is back from the uk and has 3... pm me for contact info
