Title: MK2 seat belt options?
Post by: jaed_43725 on October 15, 2013, 07:25:03 am
What seat belt options came in the MK2 Jetta? More so interested in the rear seat but all information is great. It has the normal 3-point system with a lap belt middle. Is there a system that has just lap belts in the back? Or is there a 3 point system where its 2 pieces (a lap belt and then you separately buckle in the sash (technical term for the part that goes over the shoulder))(Would like this for the front as well)? Thanks in advance.

well for front... mk2 88+ front upper, usa b3 passats had a lower belt... so there 2 pieces like you want... but rember.. they are far from safe vs a real 3 point belt..

and rears.. go get set of rabbit/dasher rears.... your kids will hate you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  they the squirm and they latch down tighter.. god so much fun with adhd kids..........

Thanks for the info. I will check out those rear belts. But if there is a 2 piece for the rear that would be great. I need them for carseats actually. Using just the lap portion when putting in a carseat will not take away from safety and make it actually sit right and be safer thus.

It may not be a 2 peice belt , but what I have discovered is there is a 3 point belt that was used in 1992 jettas and vanagons that only require 2 mounting points for the belt vs. the normal 3 mounting points for a mk2 3 point belt. Here is the belt you seek http://www.gowesty.com/ec_view_details.php?id=3218&category_id=209&category_parent_id=

My 85 golf lacks the 3rd mounting point Behind the rear shock tower. I am awaiting mine in the mail :)

Here is the link to the topic I was looking at before the mental light bulb came on.

if thats all you need it for... get as many middle seat belts as you want and use them... they just double up the center belt bolt down.. aka use same seat belt points.. just 2 instead of 1...

i kinda prefer that kind as they have the middle slide to adjust length.. so you can make it tight and know it cannot get loose...

1 long road trip with me and your kid in a mk1.. he will appreciate late style seat belts when done.. every time they wine abt its too tight.. you reach back to make sure you cannot get another click from it.. :P

then they tend to not mind wearing normal seat belts after this point..

That right there is plain brilliant.  I gotta grab another lap belt next time I'm at the wrecker.

my early mk2s all have lap belts in the back..

one on each side, with retractors, and then the stationary middle belt..

i always remove the middle, and drivers side rear seatbelts tho, because then i dont have to haul as many ppl with me!

I just removed the back seat altogether. People hate sitting on the carpet covered board that is my rear seat delete.
