Title: TD injection pump trouble
Post by: weileramer on March 12, 2006, 04:45:28 am
I'm having problems getting my '84 TD van to start using a recently purchased used TD pump from a Golf.  I had the engine running fine when I borrowed the pump from my '91 NA Jetta engine.  Now that I have the TD pump installed, timed, bled out lines, etc, it starts up and abruptly runs to full speed every time.  I have not allowed it to run for more than 1-2 sec due to the rising engine speed.
I'm just beginning to learn how these pumps work inside;  is there something I can take apart to check further?   Or should I just return pump to seller?

Well, I went ahead and took the pump apart, and guess what, I fixed it!  Turns out a spring had come off a cold start lever inside the cover, probably when I had removed a bent actuating plate off the lever's shaft to straighten it.  Turbo van go!
