Just picked this up last night for $15.
A pretty informative read

Glad you have the later version that included the diesel engines. Never have seen this one but word is it is worth the money. Cheaper than a Bentley but really how good is it?
-
???y my wire ring one has diesel (1.5 not 1.6).. wire ring is older then pre bonded as far as i know.. much more rair and valuable too.. ive had mine since i was 10 or so... hell i colored in the sweet pics they drew in it with colored pincil even...
as far as bently.. gotta have that too... ive had mine since i was 15... so many neet pics in it to make a tattoo from...

I've got one. I've had it for quite a few years but I haven't really used it. I always use the Bentley. I should pull it out and read it cover to cover. I read the the air-cooled one cover to cover 20 years ago...

ive had that bug one since i was 5 or so...
its as good a hoot.. fun read indeed..
the 88 ish vw handbook with silver/red mk2 on cover is also a great read with pics of crap we lacked in it... the one with mk3 on cover is ok.. i think mk2 verson better.. its got updates on the mk2 issue.. but lacks some of the kewl stuff

Had one, lost it and would love to get another in the near future and have some of the artwork blown up to hang on the wall.

I haven't read through it too much yet.
But it seems 1. Funky, live groovadelic in feel 2. Very Diy friendly. 3. Has a chapter for each system of the car. Preambles each system prior to the actually vw tech stuff.
I know it doesn't replace the Bentley, but it is like Bentley's laid back, funky, practical brother who grew up in the late sixties.
Hey, and I paid only $15. :)
rock on!! :)

I've read/used the air-cooled one. More handy tips than the bently, great for the simpler repairs/troubleshooting but I don't know if I'd tear a motor down without the bently.

Yea man the bug one is a hoot fer sure. I had my rabbit one since 99 and it was old and stained then.
It's sad the orig author passed away some years back. What a master of language.
Anyone who's read the big one remembers the worlds record for transferring a pint of oil by the dipstick drips. Like 4 somethin hours? Haha. I use the dipstick drips all the time to lube things. Mainly at work when I'm swapping in a new set of disgusting spark plugs on a gas engine.
I'm sorry I mentioned that filthy word. Please forgive me.
Oh and u stole it at 15. I paid 25. But I had to have it.

Got me another copy coming!

I remember going to the library and reading the air-cooled one for hours as a teenager! Cool that there is one for the Rabbit although the Bentley is more than adequate for people with some mechanical experience.

I was in my 40's when I picked one up at a yard sale for like nothin, so couldn't find the crayons. It is fun to read and I love the pictures. Too bad the diesel section was an afterthought- it shows.
