Title: Diesel Overhaul kit $239 shipped
Post by: thegimpster on July 01, 2013, 02:30:06 pm
I looked around for decent rebuild kits and didn't find a whole lot besides parts place being like $500 and some stuff on ebay so I thought i'd throw this out here and see if anyone was interested.  I put this kit together to try to save people some money on their diesel projects.

This kit includes:

Engine Timing Belt (Continental)
Timing Belt Tensioner (INA)
Head Gasket (Please specify number of holes) (Victor Reinz)
Head Bolts (Febi Bilstein)
Main Bearings (Kolbenschmidt)
Rod Bearings (Kolbenschmidt)
Piston Rings (Factory VW)
Full Engine Gasket Set (Victor Reinz)
Oil Filter (Mann)

I need to know how many holes your head gasket is and if it is Hydraulic or Manual. If you need anything else with it, just ask I can probably get it too. If you have any questions or anything you can call or text me at 812-583-0580.

Where were you last fall? I emptied my pockets at Parts Place for a rebuild before I knew any better.

EDIt: just saw your facebook post about it. Now I know who you are, I bought a timing belt cover from you awhile back.

I am rebuilding a 1.6TD in Pakistan.
Actually I am re-rebuilding it after just 300miles.
I am very interested in this package but I just want to ask one question, is it possible to remove or add things from the list????

What you are selling is NOT a rebuild kit. It is an overhaul kit. No rebuild w/o pistons.

I don't do "rebuilding" for a living but you seem to be splitting hairs a bit.

If there is nothing wrong with my pistons or bores but I replace the crank bearings, head gasket, rings, etc - I'd consider it a "rebuild".
In other words - brought back to spec.

I'm nearing completion of my rebuild and don't need the services offered. That said, I would have really liked having a "one-stop-shop" to get what I needed and what he is essentially offering.

Yea id say he was kicking the cat a little bit on this. He listed what he had to offer so its not like he was being deceitful.

Actually it is not splitting hairs. There is a federal definition for "rebuild". It requires all working surface to be re-machined. If only things that are out of spec are repaired/replaced/re-machined it is then an "overhaul". It is very specific and misusing the terms can get one sued. Sell a car as "rebuilt" when it has had  "rings and a valve job" and you could lose your house over it.

I think you guys need to check around on prices. You can get this stuff much cheaper from the typical online venders. I try to only use the ones with free shipping unless the price + shipping elsewhere is better.

Its not the government you need to worry about. Its the pain in the ass lawyer of the people you sold the car to. When they run it out of oil or blow the head gasket and the next guy in tells them it can't be a rebuilt engine because it still has standard bore pistons in it. They see it as a windfall and call their lawyer.

That is why I never leave a trail when I sell a car. People have run cars that I sold them in a ditch and then complained because the suspension was bent and now they want their (my) money back. Or they call up 6 months later when the car won't start because they left the headlight on all night and somehow that is my fault. With a lot of people it just has to be somebody else's fault, no matter how badly the F up. Or they guy who was going to sue me if I did not take a car back because they ran down the previous owner and he told them the engine was bad. It was when I bought it, but it was fresh when I sold it a month later. He just wanted out of the deal because he bought the car for his grandson who just went off to jail. He spent hours driving around my neighborhood looking for my car. He showed up at 6:00 AM and waited behind my car until I went out to the car to go to work. Calling and overhaul a rebuild just gives that kind of JO the leverage to take you to court and win.
