What do I need to replace when opening one and puttin it back together if I'm just taking a peak inside.
-
If you are just looking into it ... The drain plug or the green seal, whatever you took off will have to be replaced. If you mean splitting it in half then you would have to reseal it for sure.
-
the 2 paper gaskets and axle flange seal kits.. i never never never reuse those everytime i have they leaked..
we know pinion bearings.. so those..
it shifts nice cold.. so no syncros or anything...
and damb it.. you watched me take one apart.. both of you.... to seperate the main case the gear sets gotta come apart for the main shaft bearing to be pressed off then pressed back into the case..

Sometimes u can save the green pie tin with some rtv if you are short on parts but its nice to have a gasket set handy. I do like the copper spray a gasket for the paper gaskets

He just said he was looking inside. If he is rebuilding it or tearing it down then there is a pile of parts I would consider.

Crs,
I plan on peaking into the diesel trans sitting at your place before I put it in my Jetta. Just a peak and a cleaning and a reseal.
-
dude there is no peek... it is full strip/clean..
main shaft, pushrod seal/bushing too.. the other you did.. so i doubt they need it..

IF.....you are ripping the thing to pieces, look up "broke VW"'s website, as there is some good info. Crownwheel rivets are the boxes achilles heel. If you have the box gutted, it would be daft not to put in a bolt kit to replace the suicide rivets. Best of luck with what you go with. ;)

Yea dude. Brokevw is the man. I printed out all the tear down and reassembly procedures and put em in a binder. Much easier to browse thru in the garage too.
Oh I noticed over on brokes page under the for sale section he has some pretty sweet dresses for sale!!!
