Title: Where to find grease caps that actually fit
Post by: srgtlord on May 08, 2013, 05:55:56 pm
So thinking back to 4 years ago when I purchased a replacement grease cap for my rear wheel bearing I ordered 2 from partsplace inc. What I received now was a crappy repackaged set of MEYLE grease caps that are machined to the wrong size. Is there anywhere I can purchase a set that will fit?

PartsPlace isn't the only game in town. There's Germanautoparts.com, azautohaus, gowestyautoparts.com, which I really like, rockauto.com and I think a NAPA would probably have them. Just don't order Meyle. I've also noticed their quality isn't what it used to be.

I noticed the grease caps at german autoparts is the  exact same coloring as the meyle ones....Napa only has the MEyle bearing kit, and gowesty only has FAG bearing kit. I ended up ordering FAG bearing kit from pelicanparts.com. Lesson learned, when ordering wheel bearings, order a kit or waste time...

I picked up kits for the rear wheels a couple of years ago.  One cap was tight and I need to run a file around the outer edge to get it to bite enough to tap it home.  The other was loose so I had to widen it by tapping it over the ball part of a ball peen hammer.  Yes it is the 2 pounder one.  Flared it enough to get it  to grab and stay.

Can't trust anyone these days.

For those who are curious the grease caps in the FAG wheel bearing kit fit perfectly  ;D

Why? Rust?  spray with WD40 and you will be fine.  No need to cap them
