Title: GhettoFab: mapped some camplate profiles
Post by: TylerDurden on April 07, 2013, 08:35:33 pm
I was curious what the camplate shapes are in my IPs...

Here are some initial graphs:
ECO peaks at 2.55mm, NA and TD peak at 2.17mm. (Interesting to note that the ECO camlobe is not symmetrical.)

To get this info without too much effort, I made an indicator strip (ribbon) to tape onto the timing belt.

It can be used on the bench:

It can be used in the car:

I use a magnet to hold a pointer (seal pick, brad, etc.) almost touching the ribbon at the zero-mark , when the IP is right at the point where the plunger starts to move, dial gauge in the timing port is at zero.

Turn the IP pulley a degree, take a reading. Repeat 90 times.

The ribbon is marked in degrees camshaft,  each mark is 1.18mm from previous:
Belt & pulley diameter = 136mm. (136 * 3.14) = 427. 427 / 360 = 1.18

(Image not actual scale, actual image is PDF here: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B-v9qgbEGAVPRTN1Ul93Y2w3VzQ/edit?usp=sharing)
I have found the HP laser printers are quite accurate.

Inital graph pdf is here: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B-v9qgbEGAVPQ3p1VnNYZnVtT2c/edit?usp=sharing

I will revise the info with bosch ID numbers when I get some more mapped. I have a few pumps around here.

Niiiiiiiice.

I have measured many 1.6 NA/TD around the 2.20mm mark as well. Never had an ECO in my hands (thanks for that info ;)), and I have measured a few AAZ pumps at 3.10-3.15mm.

I have measured a Peugeot 505 pump as well, but cannot recall the measurement off-hand right now. Less than the 1.6's iirc.

It checked out to be a 9mm pump with a 1.6 cam lift of the ~2.20mm.

It is gone or I would verify that 100% lol..
