Title: WTB: Passenger Performance downpipe or turbo back exhaust
Post by: iheartbeets on March 23, 2013, 07:21:16 am
So, I contacted them about a year ago and the response I received was that he quit making MK2 exhausts and trashed all the jigs.   :(  Surely someone on this forum bought one.  I saw a piece he made and it was SOOO nice.  3 pieces held together with v-band clamps.  I can't find anyone locally that can bend the 3" stainless tube I have.  If anyone can help me track down a passenger performance piece, LMK.

Thanks

2.5".  No warranty.  Welds not backpurged.  Not to mention, this is just too sexy....

I know what you mean.  Since that guy used to be a user of this forum and Vortex, I figured it couldn't hurt to ask.  His handle was 935racer.  I saw a couple on vortex.  It doesn't HAVE to be passenger performance made.  I would pay to have someone make me what is shown in the picture.  If someone were local, I have the flex piece, the band clamps, the turbo flange, and the tubing.  Just no way to bend it.   ???

any shop around my area will do it, but it won't be the same od. throughout the turn. If it is 3" pipe say, then it would end up about 2.75" in the turn. Not bad. I would either buy bends and weld or have it done like I did and lose a little.

just do 2.5"  much easier to bend.  you wont gain any performance going that large really and it will be easier to install.  go with a 3" dp if that makes you feel better but you will need to cut and weld im sure to be affordable.

My reasoning behind going 3" was that I had 24' of the stuff given to me.  About a $200 value ;)

After a certain size of tubing, it's just not feasible to bend the tubing using the equipment that most shops would have, and still get a good bend, especially bends with a tight radius. They can usually do larger bends. A friend of mine that does a lot of custom fabrication stuff swears by this company for pre-bent pieces. http://www.mandrel-bends.com/ (http://www.mandrel-bends.com/)

i would be happy with any dp other than tt's over priced ***.  400 dollars for a down pipe is outrageous.  plus they made it so u have to run their shifter because they didn't move the pipe over far enough away from the shifter.  really?

I took it as he was meaning the entire exhaust.

Just realized that the 24' of tube I have is Alloy 625 aka Inconel ;D  When I finally get it made, I'll have one of the nicest exhausts ever.  Haha.
