Title: Head gasket problem
Post by: Zukiman87 on March 19, 2013, 12:09:24 am
Having a hard time finding the right head gasket for my block. It's a 1.6 TD. none of the gaskets I've got match up tho. The coolant holes are blocked off on one side. Any suggestions to whet to get the fright gasket? Or will the VR steel one solve my problem?

A lot of them come that way.  I drilled the 'missing' holes on some, and didn't notice any difference.

you have a hydro setup. You could use the aaz HG, but don't think about using a VR gasket, not even close.

VR = Victor Reinz

You can use the AAZ metal gasket, but unless your siht is straight it will never seal.

I've used that steel AAZ gasket on two high miler 1.6's in the past, no machine work done, didn't leak.
I used that spray copper headgasket dressing and wouldn't use them without it.  I'm not a fan
of magic goo, but a shop owner friend that does a ton of euro car HG's uses it on everything and
has never had one leak, so I gave it a shot.

Take that fwiw, I didn't have much to loose and one of them I drove myself for 40 or 50K.

FYI this is the block for my 1.5/1.6 hybrid. Minty block minty 1.5 head. I'm going to plug the second oil return hole. I've found the right gasket from Lordco. But since the clearances will be different I'm thinking i may just get the three notch just to be safe. You think it will affect the performance much between the 1 notch and three notch with this build?

Why does one not measure piston protrusion properly and make the right purchase here?

running the 1.5, or 1.6 gasket?

the 1.5 gasket comes in 5 sizes..

the 1.6 gasket comes in 3 sizes..
