Hi all, out of curiosity, is there anyone out there that fly RC helicopter, I'm curious?
-
If this is spoken about ANYMORE I WILL BAN YOU.
HAHAA KIDDING
I like to ATV.
-
Over the years I have: airbrushed, snowboard, fish, shoot target, gardening, shoot bow, play accoustic guitar, taxidermy, play bass guitar, ultimate frisbee, off road 4x4, ATV racing/riding, home butchering/smoking, golf, car audio, and most importantly I bow hunt deer still.
All other hobbies I was into would not be appropriate for the forum :D
-
Definitely love the RC stuff. I've always had the cars, trucks and boats. Got into the planes about 8 years ago now. My first plane I built was a J3 cub from great planes that also got a set of floats. Turns out that building rc planes is quite time consuming. Always wanted a plane as a kid but really it's a good thing I never got one. I doubt I would've finished it or had success flying it.
I scratch built a few park flyers but my favorite is my seamaster. Never really got into the helis but always wanted to. Took me over a year to master flying a heli on the flight sim. I'd still love to get an electric helicopter but not really sure what I should get. I've had a few of the toy indoor ones and I'd love to move up a little without spending too much. Tintin, any thoughts on what I should get for a couple hundred?

Try one of these... 61cm long. Forty bucks, outdoor (true radio, not IR) flight. I'm putzing around with one now, it's a nice next step from the indoor mini copters. It's identical, actually, just scaled up. Carries my GoPro camera without problems, handles mild wind gusts OK.
There are even larger versions, all the Marshalls & TJMaxx stores had them for Christmas, around $175.
-
Héhéhé.. don't buy this, this is a toy ;D
Have a couple of expensive rc helico since two years that I really enjoy now, no more time to post on this forum as I'm all over heli forum, and I was just wondered if I'm alone from this forum playing with those thing.
-
Yeah, I'm ready for something more advanced than that. Is there anything you can recommend Tintin that's RTF around the 200-300 mark? It would be nice to have one or two extra battery packs to reduce down time.
-
Well I forgot one, I used to powerlift
-
Guns. Lots of guns.
Until I moved to California.
Now I have two dogs and do a lot of hiking with the wife and them.
I also do a lot of computer crap, some of it professionally.
I read a lot in spells.
And smoke and drink lots of coffee.
I'm pretty boring unless you like car stuff. A lot.
I spent the last five years selling Porsche parts which isn't nearly
as cool as it sounds. But I did take apart a Carrera GT.
-
I've raced indoor and outdoor rc cars competitively for the past 8 years :)
I've also tinkered with electronics since i was 7. I'm constantly fighting the urge to rewire my golf with mil-spec wiring lol
-
3,000+ hrs thermal/x-country Hang Gliding, skiing, skating, road race (on track) motorcycles & formula V, mold making (and parts of course), metal polishing, auto/MC painting/resto, to name the big ones. Quite a few smaller ones, usually around hand skills. I like motorized bikes of a lot especially 2 strokes, which includes mopeds.
Oh, I almost forgot. Coffee roasting! You can't imagine how good home roasted coffee is.
-
Vintage bikes.... Lots and lots of vintage bikes. And Pinball. I've got a Pin*Bot machine at home over nursed back to health. My wife would totally be on board if I suggested a 2 day drive to Anywhere, USA that had a pinball museum.
And beer. But that's more of a religion and less of a hobby.

I forgot I did get into bicycles when I moved to Santa Barbara.
Bought the wife an early 70's Peugeot and I ended up with some
camo painted abomination with an ammo can welded on the back.
Then I re-built a late 90's Trek 6K with new everything from the
crankset to the wheels, it's a pretty decent bike now. Funny I can
translate the complete financial horror show that is my car interest into
bikes so easily. :)

Other then promoting our friend Rudolph Diesel, I rebuilt a few rigs quasi performance-wise - 72 Celica, 76 tr6, have a 79 vw camper van on my front yard (no performance with the van - ;D) Also fixing my cheap ass daily driver rigs - more of a neccessity vs a hobby
Hot yoga, gardening - esp garlic and legal herbs, and metal work\sculptures. ( although the "sculptures" is a bit exaggerated). Animals, grew up on a hobby farm - my pic is my dog Karl with a K.
Finally, trying to play bass guitar|melodica\music - grew up with punk, The Clash, Iggy, Bowie, but really I have NO musical skills. And like to question authority.
Hope this isn't too self- absorbed? Jack of some trades, master of none...

I've been messing around with the toy RC helis. I have an IR and a true radio setup that my wife got me for a late Christmas present.

I have a dream of putting a tdi into one of these.

Buy this one, CA is going to murder her on back registration.

I would if you were a little closer. 8) I've been waiting for one to fall into my lap but there's not many left out there. I can just imagine all the fun I would have with a rear engine two seater MR2 with the massive torque of a modded TDI. I guess the vw diesel engines is still my favorite hobby.
-
It's a neat car, 250k and I wish any older vw looked as good after so long. WA state car, zero rust, runs great. Go figure. I actually see a bunch of the non supercharged ones out here.

Humm..... Flying RC heli is a very long learning curve, it took years to learn & really enjoy flying, it all depend at what stage you are and how you want to invest in the hobbie. For serious beginner is to start with a good simulator and experiment with those little toys, and gradually move on to the real thing, not a real full size heli but a real RC heli. You need a good radio first (300$ to 500$) a good charger (anoter 200$ to 300$) then a good heli can be between 500$ for a small one to 3000$ + for a bigger size.
At the end you want to choose something that you can afford to crash, because yes, no matter how good you are at flying, you will still crash from time to time.
-
Thanks tintin, That's what I was looking for. I've had the simulator now for years and I was thinking of something like this.
http://www.greathobbies.com/productinfo/?prod_id=HMXE0801
The good news is I have a good assortment of li-pos and chargers but don't have a heli remote yet. I don't mind spending a little extra on that since you only have to buy one.
I know the simulator doesn't replace the real thing but there's not too many people around here in the hobby. Do you mind sharing which heli forum you're on?

Sweet! We have a bike club here (Vancouver Wheelmen). I've got a 1960 Schwinn that's my regular rider, a 1953 Schwinn that's my secondary, a 1938 Elgin that's my Vintage Original and a 1915 Elgin that's my "old" bike.
My wife rides a 1952 Hiawatha and she's got a 1950ish Colson and 51 Schwinn. There's a bunch of others but they're more for trading than anything we have an emotional attachment to!

Ahhh, cool.
We got my wife a mixte frame early 70's Peugeot awhile ago, still needs some un-bent crankarms but she road it to school every day for
six or eight months. Neat bike.

Hillfolk.... where is this hanger with these old airplanes. is that a piper sitting on a corrado G60.. thought I had seen it all.. what is the other airplane in the picture? I have a taylorcraft BC12d.. windstorm tore it loose from parking spot and smashed tail feathers.. waiting on insurance people to decide whether to do something with it or not...
whats up with the corrado...

OK, I resisted for awhile but I am throwing in on this. Other than rebuilding my house that is now larger than my wife and I will ever need, we have a habit of saving the world one bird at a time. It started out with a friends Cockatiel. Then came a nearly naked, cause he plucks feathers out, Cherry Headed Conure. Follow him up with a White eyed Conure that eventually escaped, more Tiels, an Orange Winged Amazon, more Budgies, and finally another Conure and Amazon. Right now we house 8, yep like 8V, birds in the aviary. Which was the front living and dining room.
All have issues as those of you that have adopted animals well know, they aren't perfect otherwise the owners would have kept them right? This big Guy is my buddy, enemy when he takes meat off my bones and is the biggest talker. We think he was raised by a little old lady because of his laugh and sigh combination. His best string of words, and this is clearly heard out in the street by strangers: "This Bird Wanna go for a Ride" or sometimes he changes it to be-- go for a Drive. Very clear, no mistakes, and lately he has been throwing in This Bird Wanna go for good. But we aren't letting go of him.
Why others couldn't make all our guys behave is our never ending question. They are birds not dogs and you have to watch the hormonal stuff twice a year. But being on the coast some of that is moderated, we think. So blah here and no thunderstorms or big heat.
So Call me a bird brain IF you have to. It is all my wife's doing she has the mercy heart.
So this be POPEYE! With "that look" I would butter him up until his eyes were less orange before I tried to scratch his head. He can do major damage to a half inch stick in one bite. Flesh to the bone, don't ask how I know that one. And bites cut from the bottom up as that is the sharper edge of the bill.

That is a Stinson 108 very lo hours like 450. Its for sale cheep. Its roped in the air like that cause it was the only safe spot in the building collapse we had a few yrs ago.
It didnt get damaged. The corrado was my cousins. The dumass sorry French, left the e brake off and it rolled backwards into a tree and creamed the back. 88k on it. Poor car. I sold it to a friend.
-
Yeah those Amazons and the Conures can live for 70 to 40 years. So I expect they will be around for my kids. The Cockatiels probably only go mid 20's but we have one that has to be at least that and he still gets around despite the broken leg. The budgies are more like 7-10 if the big guys don't get to them first. Already had that happen once. One quick pop in the back of the neck and off the cage she went. Broken neck in an instant. I know how hard they bite if mad. Scars on the fingers and wrists to prove it. And just because they have been cuddly for a week doesn't mean today you won't get nailed. Very cautious, like with a tiger around them. Might be different if they weren't all abused before we got them.
-
My brother and his wife have had alot of birds, they're good pets, not for me tho. He even had a parakeet that was very smart and cool to hang out with. They're just like any other pet u gotta spend time with them and they become more friendly and more fun.
-
I truck lol spend alot of time on the road, and my TDI is on the back burner right now, pumps at Giles and been there since October haha.
I do go shooting quite a bit and ATV alot

I used to shoot a lot, then I moved to California and everything I owned with a trigger or wheels on it (other than the Caddy) was illegal. So..
