Title: Graf heavy duty water pump?
Post by: wolf_walker on February 22, 2013, 05:54:13 pm
I never noticed before but Graf lists a PA1105 water pump assembly (PA1104 pump only) with "reinforced bearing".
One of my suppliers alludes to this being for cars with power steering, I guess additional stress from the belt.
Anyone ever heard of such?

its a mk3 water pump..

the mk3 uses a REALLY LONG pulley, and it loads the hell out of the water pump..

the mk2 had a more centerline pulley, and the mk3 used a WAY OFFSET pulley..

Thanks man.

thanks for the part number btw!!

and you are quite welcome for the info about the pulleys, and application..

ive wondered for a LONG TIME, if there was a different part# for mk3 over the mk2..

FWIW.. i would ALWAYS go with the pump with the TOUGHER BEARINGS..

thats the only failure ive ever had, is the bearings getting loose, and then the seals going out because of it..

Funny I've been putting water pumps on these things for years now, I even started using the nicer metal/rubber gasket awhile ago, but never noticed the different later water pump.
I wouldn't have this time but my supplier at work just happened to show both of them when I punched in the original VW part number for a standard early 80's pump.
I've been meaning to start a thread on cool upgrades/improvements with stock or stock-ish parts like this.

What's the hub diameter?  Looks like a 30mm.

Could this water pump work with a serpentine setup w/ a VR6 water pump pulley?

being that the stock mk2 pump does, idk why the mk3 wouldnt..

VR6 w/p pulleys require flipping on a diesel, or a 5mm spacer on a gasser..
