Post by: bbob203 on February 17, 2013, 10:12:51 am
Long term project is to build a manual vnt setup for my mk2 based on libbys designs. Ill be doing some improvements to the head and such and probably awic. Also how is the max boost limited and adjusted with a vnt?

vnt control is it all dude.. why its impotant (spelled improperly, give it a hick tone) to set up vnt controller..

hey hardees exit before summit racing.. stop there and call me.. if they got the pulled pork/cheese burger combo.. huge messy beast it is.. get me one.. else if we hit summit racing tomarrow we can hit it.. egt probe and all.. but been thinking of that messy beast.. had one on cali trip.. and that one 48min from home..

With each of the vane control designs I've used, the vanes are gradually closed by pushing the accelerator.  They are opened again by an inline boost can.  The pretension of the spring in the boost can determines how much boost it takes to start opening and the spring rate plus the pretension determines how much boost is required to fully open the vanes.  I did a fair bit of calculation, searching for springs of the appropriate size and rate and trial and error fitting them to get it set right.

As far as optimal size for a 1.6TD I'd say a VNT17.
