That cat rabbit is so clean. A real chopper so to speak, nothing there that doesn't need to be. The battery must be in the back for balance.

Of course all of them are so clean.  8)

My own block, done in Rust Bullet Black.

Black never goes out of style.  8)

And didn't the old 1.6s come light green from the factory?  I ask because my old block loks like it has some green paint under all that grime.

The third picture down is approximately the same color as factory. It's like a John Deere green.

I would like to do this and have had all my engines in pieces and on the stand to do so but I cannot bring myself to do it because of all the work it would take to degrease :(

I would love to hear tips on how the doityourselfer can do this at home?

I can't run a gas pressure washer where my projects are due to noise.  Is a pressure washer needed?  If so would an electric one work and are they noisy?

Electric pressure washers are quieter by a moderate amount.  The gas PWs are better performing, but the electric ones are adequate for home projects.  Just douse your engine in de-greaser, let it sit for a while, and power wash.  Repeat until clean, and then wipe down with brake clean and lintless towels.  For paint prep, wipe an additional time with some alcohol.  Make sure to THOROUGHLY DRY ALL SURFACES; you don't want your deck or bores forming rust!

1.5Ds were blue

1.6Ds were green..

I wouldn't have guessed that the block color was std blue or green.

As far as noise I have a 6.5 hp briggs on my power washer. It isn't as loud as a lawn mower. Bigger muffler.

If you have a self serve car wash near by. Haul the block down there. They don't have great power.

You might be able to use some gunk degreaser then oven cleaner on the block.

Where do you live that you can't run lawn mower engine? I suppose there are no harleys owners near by.

I only paint them after they have been tanked and bored over.  I like black.  I also liked the grey one.

I also liked the grey one.

I dig that grey too.  Nice bridge between the aluminum head and the black brackets.

Love the detroit greens i think it looks close to factory green. A little tip to get he crusty rustys off your cast iron first. A hammer and chisel. Dont beat it like you wanna kill it and wear glassses and just with light taps you can get down to the base metal. Even a claw hammer using the claw end is helpful

Alpine green is WAY more pale/greyish than the standard green..

grey shows oil leaks quite amazing btw..

black just looks too OEM, but DOES expel the most heat..

In the same vein, Jacks Lack did New Ford Grey for his big power daily AAZ.   I think it's the best grey out there; bright to help with leaks, but still good at expelling heat.

Blocksmith, what is the color of the valve cover?  it almost looks like Mexico Beige.

And that's why I chose Black, to dissipate heat.  Kind of a holdover from what I learned about air cooled engines and cooling tin painting.  And again, black never goes out of style, and goes good with everything.

My engine for my dream Bus swap, though, will be painted Niagara Blue.  Lovely powder enamel color, with a hint of chalky grey.
Model pic instead of engine bic, but you get the idea:

It's Cummins Beige, duplicolor engine paint. Naturally the IP has been painted the same color   :)

I prefer black myself because it makes the grease or oil and grime on the block harder to notice.

And I want to see some actual data about this "black dissipates heat better" business. At least I want to see something that shows it makes any significant amount of difference or I don't believe it.

I only believe stuff I read on the interweb if it is on this forum.   All else is suspect to fact twisting and BS.

I thought they came covered in a half inch of sludgy dusty oil with twigs as an option?

My AAZ from Overland was black..  https://www.dropbox.com/s/ylvjnfn7iyf1oyk/P1000427.JPG (https://www.dropbox.com/s/ylvjnfn7iyf1oyk/P1000427.JPG)
