Title: split alternator pulley
Post by: 92EcoDiesel Jetta on February 05, 2013, 09:41:14 am
I took the 24 mm nut off an alternator from a 91 Eco and to my surprise the pulley split in 2 pieces! Is that stock from the factory or after market? Is it so that you can use wider belts by adding shims?

Maybe vw went cheap or the pulley split at the welds...

Most of the ones I've seen are split with shims for width adjustment.

most of my pulleys are machined steel..

only one of them is the split style..

yes, you should be able to shim the pulley to take a wider belt..
