Hey guys my name is Hunter, I'm from Chesapeake, Va.
Had a diesel for a little over a year. Been building it for a year.. yes means I haven't driven it in a year, with the exception of h2o which ended badly.. Head was ruined when I got back home
Anyways I was building a 1.6TD Rabbit 4Dr, and this is close to when it was done, right before the bottom end ate itself and I started new..

Thats where I'm at! I have not worked on it in a couple weeks. I need to get the sheet metal ready to weld in, call a buddy to come over and weld it.. call a paint guy, and get a nice cheap paint job.. ;)

How long did it take you to do those fender wells? seems like an easy couple days a piece..

5hours straight each side. An iPod and a long playlist and your set. From what I can tell the fenders are the worst/thickest and therefore hardest. I plan to do the rears as well.
-
Yeah, I was thinking about it.. but I have an extremely clean 84 Jetta. The only rust is one seam of the trunks floor, loovely lol.
Which is retarded,,, because for the 5 years I have been driving it the rear floor pans have been lakes.

Pulled the trigger on the stage two cam!

Received my CE2 harness/cluster today!
-
Looks like you've come quite a ways already. Like I said in the other thread, old engine colors are too loud, go I'm glad you're taking the color in another direction. So what will the CE2 harness and cluster do?
Car is definitely in good hands, so keep on keepin' on.
-
I wanted to swap harness's because the old mk1 wiring had seen its share of jerry riggin, and it had issues.. So swapping to this ce2 harness will give me a newer harness, and the cluster matched with a corrado g60 speedo cable will screw right into the 02J. And the mk2 cluster is not hard to modify into a mk1 dash.
-
Not to mention if later on I wanted to do a tdi swap its so much easier with a ce2 harness.,

What wiring?? Haha. For anyone south of me you could even leave out GP wiring to clean it up.. -16C I can start my mtdi with no issue.. -23c she moans about it.. But itll start.
-
Just something that made sense.. So it's happening.. Not to mention how easy wiring wise it is to add power windows/locks.. Ect.
-
Ripped out the old crappy wiring harness.

Hey where did you find a CE2 harness and what's the going rate for one?

Get one from a junkyard from any 90's VW. Make sure it's complete. Then mix and match and splice to make it work with whatever MK1 components you are using. Or ship it to me with your old harness, and for starting around $250 I'll sort it all out for you, soldier it together, and draw you up a nice wiring diagram.
-
I bought it from krauthousemotorsports.com, well the guy I bought it from owns that shop I believe.
I paid $300 for the cluster and wiring harness. But that's because I wanted a diesel harness and had him pull it for me. Also that included a g60 speedo cable. Harness should run you $150-$200.

Head came in!! Ordered a new head gasket, rear wheel cylinders, and steering rack boot kit! That should be it!

You're Ablaze! Right on!

Started the pain staking process of removing that new red paint.
This was after one coat of stripper..the black is por15, the stripper took that off as well. I don't think I will be putting it back on, it makes the paint look thick.

I put some time in on the block, I've got it pretty much where I want it. The back of the block was very rusted before so I doubt it will come as clean as the front did. Tomorrow I tackle the trans.

Build looks great. what kind of advantages does the stage 2 cam have then? And what sort of improvement do you expect to see?
doing a very lazy engine build myself target 200rwhp at least
-
It has more lift over a stock alh cam. An alh cam itself has more lift over the stock AAZ cam. So it's better. I've read that its more durable..
Everyone will tell you that a cam is not going to make a big difference. It's true, but when it comes down to it (just using examples no actual number increase I say is right) stg 2 cam on a stock motor may only be +5hp, but adding an exhaust whereas without the cam may get you +5hp but with the cam you would see slightly more out of each upgrade than someone with a stock cam.
-
Yeah, cams are one of those things that get better with each additional engine mod, sine higher stages are designed to work with more performance-oriented components. Some even help turbo spool, which, while not necessarily increasing horsepower in itself, can noticeably improve your power band. It is commonly said that the last thing to upgrade in an engine should be the cam, since then you can match it to your other mods to optimize performance.
The head I got is ported w/ IIRC a 1.8 stock gasser cam. Got the setup from user Smokey Eddie; should be interesting to see what happens.
Glad to see your big part came in, and the engine portion of the build is getting back underway.

I just bought a new daily!! 1984 rabbit 2DR Diesel! I traded a little go kart/buggy, a small 110cc four wheeler, and $300 for it. Drove it home 2 hours, not a hitch. It has some power too! I can't tell I'm driving a diesel! So many new parts, car has 230k on it and at 180k the timing belt/ect, and the head was rebuilt. Along with new motor mounts, rebuilt vac pump. This thing is awesome! Did I mention it came with polished le castlette wheels!? I'll get some pics ASAP!
It does have an idle problem, and from what I can sort out the pump is gummed up a bit. After driving it at anything over 1500ish rpm it develops a "lumpy" idle slightly higher than idle. Only way to get it to drop is put load on the motor enough to drop the idle, then it idles fine until you rev it up.
So a new fuel filter and some ATF should fix the problem hopefully. Other than that it is missing bits here and there, and the ignition switch is pooped out.

So I must say I've been giving the rabbit so much attention that the wheels on my truck are starting to weather.
I should start getting it together soon.
UPDATE:
I'm not painting the truck yet, had some unfortunate financial losses, and can't swing it. But... The truck will go together non the less. I might do a sweet roll on job. Just so its not a silver truck with black doors and orange bed/cab.
I'm also just painting the block black, trans and head no paint. Everything else silver/black. Engine bay will either be por-15 or a por-15 engine bay kit.
Should be a good little w.i.p. when I'm "done"

Subbscribed.
I couldn't be happier with my AAZ/Caddy build. You're gonna love it !

Been super slow!
Most recent progress
Floor pan welded in. Still need to put it on the lift and weld up the bottom where I let it overlap a little. (Added strength for the occasional fatty driver). Then I can por15 it all and start laying dyna mat.

Engine bay fully por15, and painted the temporary spray bomb brown.

Floor pans all por15'd. Tomorrow it will be dry so I can lay dynamat down. Then continue to por15 the firewall and rear panel.
Hoping to put the wiring harness in Sunday. Fingers crossed!
