Title: Exhaust on a 1.6 TD
Post by: Op-Ivy on February 28, 2006, 05:37:02 pm
Would a muffler on a 1.6 have to be specifically for a diesel vehicle? Or does it matter? Any tips on picking one out? Not too loud, performance improvement.

A gasser type muffler should work just fine with your diesel. Only exception would be a SuperTrapp disc style unit. On those the spaces between the discs  will soon coke up with carbon and lead to high back pressure and increased EGT's.
Don't ask me how I know that for sure

Depends on what you want to hear while your driving.  I got a 2 1/4" stainless steel straight pipe with a resenator and no muffler.  Sounds good and believe or not it's not that loud from inside the nor from outside the car.  You can even hear a small amount of turbo wyne.

Mine is 2.5" with a 24" glasspack in the rear. Some might say it's a little on the loud side, but I don't mind.
