Does anybody know the inner diameter size of the filter to pump clear line on a Mk1?

I use 1/4" ID from the filter to pump. You can get that line with the banjos already on it (actual VW part) from many parts places.

i ordered several feet of the stiff clear line from McMaster-Carr years ago. Now i just trim off a section warm the ends with a lighter and slide it over the bajo fittings. Great way to start off each diesel car project, you can clearly see if you are getting fuel and if there are air bubbles in the line.

1/4" clear line also works for the line going from the pump to the tank, on a Rabbit.
The metal line going back to the tank is 5/16" but you can usually stretch 1/4" over it.
MK2s have a 3/16" barb leaving the pump.

Tygon 4040a used here.
Some NAPAs will stock it, motorcycle shops commonly have it.

Andrew, did you have any issues with water? I know it says not to use in a wet environment is why I ask, but didn't know how wet is wet environment to them. Under hood should be fairly dry but since we have another 1/2 year since the last reply I figured I would ask how it was doing.

I have not had any issues with it and have run it on multiple vehicles for several years. I find it to be excellent.

I've just been running plain jane 1/4" clear vinyl hose from Lowe's on my MK2 for almost 3 years now. It was like 15 cents/ft.
Many people told me it was a bad idea and that diesel would "dissolve it" in a matter of hours, oh how wrong they were. :)

used it before and the diesel eating it wasn't the issue, the issue I had was it got hard as a brick when the diesel/heat from the engine got to it. Then it was brittle and wanted to crack.
I bought some of the Tygon clear and will be putting it on later today hopefully.

I have been using the stuff at the link below for years now as well. In fact I got my first vw diesel 3+ years ago and that jetta is still using the original run of this hose. It still bends and seems pliable enough that I haven't had to cut off the ends when doing maintenance even though you can see clamp indent marks. So I use it for every car now. I like the thicker wall stuff that requires a bit of force to go over barbs.

I am guessing it doesn't get too wet during normal driving conditions and I have not had any kind of wierd failure yet.
If you look at their catalog I think they actually offer a couple "diesel" rated type of hoses as far as the spec sheets but I never bothered to try that stuff out because of how well the above works.

Are your lines still clear? I have clear Polyurethane lines from McMaster also (not sure if exactly the same as yours) but mine are a dark brown after a few years and no longer clear. Not sure if that has something to do with using WVO. On the other hand, I also have sections of clear nylon lines and they are still as clear as the day I installed them. I wish the polyurethane lines stay clear like the nylon since it is a lot more flexible and can make much tighter bends

Interesting. I wonder if they could have changed the way they make the hoses?
Now that I think about it, mine did not actually come from them clear as in totally see through? Mine had a brown tint to them that never bothered me since I just wanted to check for flow and bubbles, etc. Never thought anything of that either because of all the funky colored hoses I have seen for motorcycles, etc.
And as far as that goes I cannot say that my original pieces are any more cloudy or have broken down in a way that has made me replace them? Then again I have only had to mess with them a handfull of times when doing ip or fuel filter work.
