I want to pull my turbo off so i can drill and tap for my EGT probe and im trying to assemble all the gaskets before beginning the job, what im a little confused about is the turbo flange gasket..is there one that is supposed to be there? A friend of mine who has access to ETKA says that one isn't called for, yet i see them for sale all over the place. hopefully someone can help?

The two stock engines I have here have no gasket between the exhaust manifold and turbo. They do have gaskets where the turbo meets the downpipe.

100% correct. Also, if you remove the oil return line at the turbo you'll need a gasket there.

FWIW, Hylomar makes exhaust flange sealant. That might be the shot on the flanges, gasket or not.

I like to hand lap the mating surfaces using 120 grit paper and then seal with Permatex Ultra Copper. I've done quite a few and never seen a single leak that way.
