Title: 1981 rabbit pickup brake anti rattle clips
Post by: trent77 on December 04, 2012, 08:50:03 am
Anyone have a good photo of how these go in? It is rediculous how many brake jobs i have done and I can't seem to get these correct... They are the wire clips. Thanks
Trent

I read this last night and thought if it wasn't raining cats and dogs out, it wasn't cold out, or very dark I would try getting a picture of the clips with the cell phone slid up there.  Then it dawned on me,  my car is 225 miles away, I am driving the truck right now.  Maybe get you a couple of pictures tomorrow as the car needs the axle and stuff worked on and the tires are off anyway.

I went to the library and hunted down a great pic of the style brakes I have and asked for a photo copy.  I keep it in the Bentley now.  They are a bugger to get to stay.  Something about where they catch and hold if I remember right.  They either do or they are gone.  I have spares in my tool box as well.

Get the later style used on mk2's. Better design. Easier to get to stay.

Ok I got the pics, the phone, the computer, and the forum.  Finally ready to present the freaking clips of doom.

I say that because it seems they have this inner desire to be run over and keep popping off on my car.

But the pics:  These are on the Kelsey=Hayes Style of calipers.  The Bentley I have shows one picture, Fig 7-3 of these and it isn't real helpful either.  Maybe you can get a sense of what to do with yours from them.

I find that the clip has to go between the tabs of the brakes and the part that doesn't move, or they just jump off and get run over by a Focus or something.  The big tab has to tuck behind the caliper body.

The curved spring part gets tucked to the backside of the brake.

I actually had to file these down a bit to get them to stay in place between the brake pad tabs and the rest of the working parts.
