Post by: bbob203 on November 23, 2012, 04:53:07 pm
Anyone have any experience with this setup? How does it perform?

theres someone on here running a GT15 on his caddy.. claims it works good..

FWIW, GT15 replaced the K03, so it is roughly the same side as well..

come to think of it, the K03 might be MORE capable than the GT15..

I think ur right that it is smaller, it would be a nice little turbo on a 1.6

I agree, and a k03 would be a good DD turbo on a 1.6 also!

The AAZs and 1.6TDs must have had their turbos swapped at birth :)

Im running an eco k14 right now wondering if the gt15 would be better or worse?

i feel like the gt15 would be more comfortable at boost levels above 14 psi

I doubt it, I don't have a compressor map for either one, but most of Garett's really small turbos are more efficient at low boost levels,  I don't know that there is enough difference between a k14 and a gt15 to make it worth the hassle of swapping

I think next time one pops up ill buy another aaz k14 and slap it on my 1.6 turn up the boost a few lbs and see how it goes. The one im running now is still at stock boost so i figure if i crank it up to 12psi with a gov modded td pump ill be happy for now. The eco pump and stock boost it just starts to get a tiny bit of power then it kinda disappears.

yes, the small GTs are not set up to flow LOTS of air at high pressres..

the hot side of all the small turbos are quite small, and get restrictive at higher RPMs..

the GT-15 is quite a nice little turbo IMO.

on my cabby with 1y engine, i'm running it up to 18psi. I used to have it on my old aaz. The turbo had done 130,000km when I got it, I did 80,000km with it turned up to 20psi on that engine before I swapped it out.

still going strong on the 1y at 18psi after another 35,000km.

it doesnt flow that well after 4000rpm on the 1.9, but its still worth reving it out to 4500. massive boost and torque between 1400-3500rpm though.

I will shortly be swapping out the 1,9 for a hydro 1.6 (keeping the 1.9 for another project) and the gt-15 will definately be going on the 1.6.

in terms of overall performance, i would say the gt-15 beats the stock TD T3 by a long way (for EGT, smoke, lag and utilising the engine the best way).

i like to spin my engine upwards towards 6500revs sometimes..

i cant run little turbos.

VNT15 will breathe just fine up top.. its amazing that a similar turbo can perform soo much better..

right now, nothing.. my wastegate can broke its diaphragm again..

i need to buy one of those adjustible, rebuildable wastegates..
