Title: alternator problem in 91 jetta 1.9TD
Post by: h2kFrosty on February 24, 2006, 12:36:41 pm
I bought this car from a guy in Texas.  It's a 91 Jetta with a 1.9TD AAZ swapped into it, and the alternator has gone out... but I have no idea where to get an alternator for it.  It has a/c and power steering and has 3 V belts.   Any help would be greatly appreciated, and if you need me to take pics I can.

Thanks,

Bryan

could have a shop rebuild that one or go into a parts store and ask for one for your year/engine. bosch and motorola seem to be the two manufacturers you'll want to choose from.

the problem that i'm having is that this engine was never sold in any cars here in the u.s. (to my knowledge), so it's really hard to find parts for it in auto parts stores.

ah yes, you're in the states.

then i would definitely recommend finding a reputable starter/alternator shop to rebuild the one you have.

you could have one shipped from canada.

or...someone might chime in and let you know which alternator from another year/engine you could use that will be available in the US.

get it rebuilt.  Any automotive electrical shop can do it.  It's probably a bosch alternator, they are all very similar inside and parts are plentiful.
