Hey all; any one want B5 passat parts?
Allow me to explain. I have a friend who's dad has a 1999 passat that he is taking the engine out of (1.8T gasser), and after that has no need of the rest of the car. The car is a silver wagon, and has a FWD manual trans, code DVX. Paint is tired and dirty in some areas, but the panels are rust free and straight save for the front bumper which was damaged in an accident. No damage to the metal bumper bar or front end carrier assembly, though. Interior is gray cloth, but smells musty from sitting for over a year.
Would anybody be interested in any parts off the car? I know we never got diesel B5s, but some folks must have a gasser DD they don't talk about. ;) I'll entertain any offers as well as questions about the vehicle. Funds will go towards the engine rebuild.
Thanks for the read!

Drop a TDI into that frame... if it was 2 years older I'd be seriously thinking about it...

You and me both, but my friend's dad doesn't want to. He's got a new B6 and has no use for this car. He likes VW's, but isn't a VW guy, if you get me. Besides, my friend and I are rebuilding this engine for his school term project (interest in mechanical engineering), and we'd rather make the out-of-pocket expense less painful.
Anyone interested? Anyone?
. . . . Bueller?
P.S.: Gonna be making a part-out FS thread on the Vortex also, so if anyone wants something ask sooner rather than later.

I'll take both front wiper arms. My '04 has the side-pin mount and they kinda suck unless you buy the expensive VW wipers.

Why two years older? RIV program?

No, that would make it a 1997 B4 Passat, which is a MUCH easier car to TDI swap due to it being a transverse engine, as well as it being cheaper to maintain as well since it doesn't have, like, 87 suspension linkages that go bad every 70K like clockwork. :P
What is an RIV program? ???

You shall have them! I'll make sure not to lose the end caps as well. $45 shipped sound fair? You need the cowl piece?
P.S.: Vortex part-out thread is up; lurkers better shout out now.

If the axles are OEM, can you check and see if they have sealed inner joints or if they are open like MK4 TDI's. I wouldn't mind having a spare set of axles.

Not sure what you mean by 'open' CVs, but yes they are the stock axles. They're secured by bolts and all, and you can have them if you want them. It'll take me a while to get them, as my next weekend is booked full of other activities. That goes for Synch's wiper blade request, also. Does $90 + shipping for the pair sound fair?

See this pic, the inner joint should be like the ones on the right, not the left

Okay I see what you mean. IIRC they are the sealed units, but the car is 2 counties away now, so I can't go out and determine that right now. The majority of passat axles I've pulled out at work are the sealed type, though, so big chance they are. Is that price I posted doable?

Just did a check on car-part, there are some local for a price you couldn't ship them for :)
-
Not to side track this post much but regarding these axles. I've seen both set ups. Open and closed. All the autos I've seen are the closed type but all the autos I've worked on are '02>. The manuals have been a mixed bag, but it appears the earlier cars were the open type?

Exactly.
Although I also wasn't aware of the sideways engine issue...

Euro 97 Passats didn't have the sideways engine syndrome ;)

That's all right. Just let me know if there is anything else that interests you.
