Title: Frankenmotor Q's
Post by: Big Daddy Roth on October 09, 2012, 11:42:08 am
So the AAZ in my syncro B3 is sick. The engine needs to come out and get rebuilt.

But I have a friend with a 1.6 with 1.9 head.

Quote
Fully rebuilt 1.6 cy block .30 over ks pistons..brand new aaz 1.9 head Oem casting(cam, valves the whole show new), mg head gasket with arp studs and cooling jacket mod, k24 turbo, recent resealed pump,36mm oil pump,g60 windage tray, GTD Bosch bigger injector nozzles to be installed, g60 valve cover installed on aaz head with g60 studs and gasket, everything new that should be.

Can I use my 1.9 Giles pump on it?

Stick with the K24 or the K14 I have on my 1.9?

Depending on which aaz pump u have you'll also have to switch the pump mount bracket over.  I would use k24 but it depends on what you want from the car tho

I have the later TDI style pump. The one you loosen the wheel and turn the shaft, not the pump, for timing.

What about the delivery springs? leave em?

So I'm still wondering if I can use my Giles pump on this thing.

Do I swap the delivery springs from the 1.6 pump to my 1.9 pump to use with the GTD injectors?

or

Stick with the 1.6 pump and the GTD injectors

or

Giles 1.9 pump and AAZ injectors?

I'm also leaning towards the K14. Simply because I have a heavy AWD car. Would be nice to have that boost come a little earlier.

if you would have READ travis's post, you would know the answer already..

what are these "delivery springs" you speak of? delivery valves maybe?

myself personally, i would use the giles pump and the 1.6 injectors..

you will need the injectors and 1.6 lines, as well as the 1.6 delivery valves..

you will also need to change the pump bracket, like travis already mentioned..

What are you guys talking about with swapping the pump bracket??  If you install an AAZ pump on a 1.6 (or vice versa) everything lines up just fine provided you use the stock sprocket for the pump.

I did read his post. It wasn't the answer I was looking for. Hence why I clarified.

I appreciate your answer, not your arrogance.

Do not newer pumps have a larger front bore size

I haven't used the AAZ pump with the adjustable sprocket/hub.  I believe it would have a larger front bore size and would not fit in the 1.6 bracket.  But the typical AAZ pump with the matching solid sprocket will fit the 1.6 bracket just fine.  He hasn't said which pump he has, but odds are good it will work.

said he has the later style TDI pump in the second post..

meaning it needs a different pump bracket..

Doh!  Yup, his pump won't fit the 1.6 bracket...

Did I ever mention anything about the bracket??

Yes, my pump uses a dedicated bracket.

Yup, I sure won't be reading any more of it.  Good luck with your project.
