Title: Need new starter.. will 02J tdi starter fit 02A tranny?

As the title says.. the gasser starter I used from my swap is failing fast.

Which TDI starter will fit 02A tranny?

1998 Jetta TDI had the 02A transmission.

Got a 2000 tdi starter and it works. Turns slow still.. maybe battery or else another bad starter.

is the mating surface between the starter and the transmission crystal clean? It grounds ~400 amps through there, it needs to be spotless.

Do a voltage drop test and have your battery load tested

I'll double check that, thanks.

The battery might also be weak, like 750ca 600cca or something piss poor like that. I"m going to grab a 950cca battery from work and see if it helps.
