Title: 01 TDI parts...I don't get it
Post by: theman53 on August 25, 2012, 05:37:46 am
VW makes you buy this if you have a leaky valve cover gasket...around 173.00

BUT
this is the listing for an oil pan gasket.

What is up with this???

This could be definitive proof that the USA is also blessed with the same useless standard of VW parts counter staff as we are in Scotland!

The poorest "partsman" performance I have had to date was when one individual failed to find the front crankshaft oil seal on both the microfiche and computer systems.
"Do you have an engine number he asked". Jeepers, how hard can it be? I did convey a number to him, however the seal in question is the same on all water cooled engines ranging from SOHC 895cc to DOHC 1984cc spanning 30 years! The same seal is also used for the IM shaft and in the cylinder head for the camshaft.
I bet he forgets his name and how to tie his shoe laces each morning when he wakes up.  :D

he was prolly just a honda fanboy.. they arent used to such universal engines. the most they are used to doing, is swapping heads/engines, because everything is too far different to work together like a VW.

all my VW's are pieced together..

my 86 Golf is more closely spec'd as a GTI.

my 92 Jetta GLI, its a diesel..

the only car i have that is stock-original, is the 86 Audi Coupe GT that i just recently fixed up..

All the tdi's use sealant instead of a gasket on the oil pan. I don't know why the entire valve cover came up for a valve cover gasket though.

The entire valve cover came up as that is the ONLY way to buy a valve cover for it...if you know of another source do tell as I have never seen one.

That's dumb. Models before and after all have separate gaskets.

Huh. I had no idea. Good to know. And yes, seems to be an ALH only thing. Which is strange. Why VW?!
