Title: Eco Crankshaft Pulley
Post by: Tom77 on August 21, 2012, 10:22:21 am
I just got a 92 Jetta EcoDiesel, and want to change the WP that is making noise.
Also thinking to replace the TB.
Removed alternator, AC compressor, PS pump and the brackets.
My question is if I need to remove the crankshaft bolt.
I took the 4 allen bolts, but the crank pulleys doesn't move, I tried to tap it with a hammer from the back, but could not loose it.
Do I need to use a puller, or am I doing something wrong?

Do not remove the crankshaft bolt! Use some penetrating oil to loosen the corrosion that's holding it in. A puller would definitely get it off. Do you have a Bently? If not I have an extra one in very nice condition

Keep tapping. Be careful if you use a puller not to warp it

tap the FACE of the pulley to break the corrosion.

also hit it with some PB.

you DO NOT NEED TO LOOSEN the big crank bolt.

you have to replace that bolt if you loosen it..
