That is your timing belt rubbing on the side of your tensioner pulley, I can't recall.. Are they plastic or metal on the 1.6's?

Does the noise only happen at idle? or all the time?

Sounds like the bearing in the tensioner is gone.

hmm. the damn thing has less than 15kmiles on it. I've had this noise for awhile I just ignored it for some reason.

I just had a car in where the metal timing belt shield was rubbing the cam pulley.  I loosened the two 10mm bolts on each side of the head that hold the shield on, pushed the shield towards the head and retightened.  The bolt holes are slotted.  Hopefully that's your problem too.
