Title: Re: Gear Selector Problems, NOW FIXED......
Post by: james277553 on August 14, 2012, 02:15:21 pm
So tonight I'm driving home from work thinking how well my car is going and suddenly out of no where I find I can't select my gears very well, It got worse and worse during the rest of my journey. When I get home I realise this bolt in picture below had worked loose!!. :o
I unscrewed the bolt and noticed the end was missing the little ball bearing.
Does anyone know what this part does and if i may have damaged my gearbox beyond repair. I need to source this part and unsure what it is called.
I have all new bush's and rod's so know that is not to blame for poor gear selection. Hope someone can help. Thanks

Well today I finally got the new part from the VW Stealership. It cost me £17 for a fancy bolt! :o But as you can see from the picture the original was absolutely knackered. I had to use a magnet and remove the bearing separately, Its no wonder I struggled to get home.

I fitted the new part in seconds and my gearbox is better than ever now. It was pretty good after replacing all the bushes last year but now with this installed its like new. ;D
I would recommend people checking this if there having problems getting gears smoothly.
Hope this is some help to a few people.
