So how man are there of us here form Ohio?
-
:D
-
Represent dawg! :P No diesel- yet. I'm pretty sure I have the only running Scirocco in Mt. Vernon. :) I'm just 45 min. from Mid-Ohio as well.

Looks like you need to head up to Canada, and get yourself a 1.6TD donor car :D
Grab an intercooler, too, 'cuz you're gonna want it. And, I'm sure all the performance experts here will say to send the IP to Giles, just in case the seals are leaking :P
Then, you know what to do. The Scirocco will accept the 1.6TD engine. And the intercooler's to make it a GTD ;) ;)

Hmmm, a scirocco with a turbo diesel ... wouldn't that be an STD?
I wouldn't want that badge on my car.
-
Turbodiesels weren't badged in any special way to denote them as TDs ;)
The exception to that rule is the GTD, which used a GTD badge, that looked like a GTI badge, except it said GTD. :P
-
Well, it's either going to be a frankenstein 1.9 or a TDI-mechanical. ;) And yes, I would put a TDI badge on it if I happened to go that route...
Ultimately, I'd like to have the car prepared in such a way that I could drive it daily, (although I probably wont) show it to promote Diesel Technology, and compete for fun in autox/rallyx/track day events. I'm not so concerned about being the fastest one out there but I guarantee I wont be last- and just to raise some eyebrows too, and maybe just have one person say "damn, that is a fast diesel!"

One word: biodiesel.
If you're gonna promote diesel, might as well go whole hog and promote that sweet juice of the bean (or whatever feedstock you're using. They use lots of canola at restaurants, IIRC, so the bio I'll be making will likely be canola based). :D

Not from ohio... but just wanted to say that canola makes good biodiesel. Most of the commercial biodiesel in the US is soybean based, but I've gotten canola based stuff, and it's better. Works at lower temps, and also has higher cetane rating I think.
I've got about 95% dino diesel in mine now. Geesh that stinks compared to biodiesel I'm used to.
-
Yeah, I've heard that canola's much better, too.
~25 F gel point, instead of ~35. I've heard a 37 F gel point for WVO-based, though, but I don't know what feedstock we're talking about.
Alternately, I *COULD* throw a gallon of fresh canola into each batch of WVO...

Plan on it. At least use a blend, but it will depend on avaliability around here. I saw a sign on a local farmer co-op grain depository in town (yeah, grain depository IN TOWN) that said they use Bio for all farm equpment. Probably stop in there and see where they get it. I'd love to make it eventually but dont have the space right now. Ever heard of the rallyvw guys? From Ohio, and they use 100% bio in their rally TDI. http://www.rallyvw.com/
Good guys, I've donated to them to help the cause and they send me a DVD of their Pikes peak run, totally awsome people.

McWherter Petroleum is probably your best bet.
They're in Delaware, and sell B20 at a pump, and will deliver 55 gallon drums of whatever percentage you want.
And, yes, I've heard of RallyVW. I hang out on TDIClub, how could I *NOT* have heard of them? :p

There's Marengo Auto Recycling(?) on 229 between Sparta and Marengo...
There's also Rusk Brothers on 229 near Ashley. They actually started as an indie ACVW repair shop, but they're now a mega-pick-n-pull.

That's funny, I've driven down 229 a million times and never noticed. :P Of course, usually those places dont have a big sign or anything out front....
Tax return is coming, need to get my brake upgrade started. :)

That's funny, because Marengo Auto Recycling DOES have a big sign out front :P
Anyway, you know how a few miles past Highland High, there's a bunch of curves that people take at like 65, but it says to go 35? They're on those curves.
If you get to Castle's Gas and Deli, you've missed it.
And, Rusk Brothers is a HUGE place, with a decent sized building with (in HUGE lettering) "RUSK BROS" on the front of the building. Literally, it's JUST outside of Ashley, on this side. (I'm in Marengo, FWIW.)

Thanks, might have a "spy" trip this weekend out there and see what they have. Talked to my buddy who has his own body/custom paint shop, http://www.evolindustries.com ( I made his website :P) and he said they have a really good selection and for the most part have the place sectioned off and organized pretty well. He said it was a ton better than that U-wrench-it place in Columbus.
Thanks for the directions. Dont think I've gone much farther past the turnoff for 71 out that direction like, ever. :)

Oh, who here's on OhioVW?
Just mentioning it... for our cars, getting cheap stealership parts is a Good Thing(tm).
Join there, and PM bbuxton with your first and last name - then, the parts guy at Byers will get the updated list, check to make sure you're on it, and you'll get parts at wholesale prices. w00t!

I had a girl friend from Ohio...she was crazy.
There was an insane girl that I tried to go out with... (no, really, she was insane, like she had been to a mental hospital before  )
Anyway, she suddenly decided that she hated me and tried to get me to kill myself. WTF?

Well I think this girls problem was she was never commited.
I knew it was over when I was standing in my bedroom doorway with a loaded pistol in my hand thinking about going downstairs to show her empty skull what daylight is like...then I decided Id just as well NOT go to prison. At that moment it was almost worth it. I like being able to sit down without pain.

I grew up in Goshen next to Jacobs vw repair.
My parents worked at the GM plant in Norwood and I went in the marines in
1980. I bought a 86 n/a diesel which I still have and have been through many vdubs in the car bidness.
Even though I haved lived in NC for 25 years I am still that " guy from Ohio who drives those diesels"
