Title: back from the dead.hillfolk is back yall mk2 coop build
Post by: hillfolk'r on August 12, 2012, 12:04:13 am
oh man thanks so much theman53 for getting my old screenname back
ive moved 2 or 3 times, gotten a few computers since what 08?...wow too long
i started a thread over at that "other" place, and its my dads old 91 jetta coop na diesel
its got a replacement 1.9 with a 1.6 head..he got the new engine around 99 or so i think it was..reason for a 1.9/1.6 head was he didnt wanna mess with manifolds and stuff,it was a direct swap..
well when he went in 03 for a new car the dealer offered him 500 for trade
heh dad said screw it ill give it away..the dealer was puzzled
yea he gave it to me! i may or may not have given him 500 for it i forgot.
well i drove it a little when i lived in ohio, and when i moved back to ny i stored it away in a crappy garage around late 06/07 ......time wasnt the kindest to it and im upset about some of the things, but since my 79 tdi-m is not gonna be running for a few more years i figured in april this year to get it out of storage and get it goin......the engine has around 40k on it and i got enough stuff to do a stock td setup, but slow is fine for now.....i figured ill make it pretty instead of fast.fast is for the 79
this is for slow cruisin with my girl and goin to the drive in and what not...
i may try to cut and paste some of the thread from that "other" place, but ill start from gettin it outta storage
thats my work truck.i hate that bouncy bastard it hurts my touchhole
(http://i1260.photobucket.com/albums/ii563/hillfolkvwdude/2012-05-02193941.jpg)

there it is at the shop, which is new cause we had it cave in from snow load in winter 10
it misssed my 79s roof by 6 inches from bein flattened!!!
i put the single round front and m3 tails on it back in 05 or so....

i got a few k layin around from some hard work i did tearing down the shop,so its goin in the coop.always wanted ats's and got them 20%off memorial day sale thru tunershop..heh it doesnt run yet,but mah wheels r nice! who cares if they r small?ive got a big d**k to make up for it.
this is a pic of a pic, circa 98-99 when my dad built the hangar the first time
(http://i1260.photobucket.com/albums/ii563/hillfolkvwdude/2012-04-25211758.jpg)
all i didd at this point was was n wax it and pose it for pics...im goin 4 wheelin wanna go?
i was freaked about the timing belt, which one it takes...i thought it used a smaller int shaft pulley and a std 1.6 belt...
i was gettin all kinds of opinions over there so i pulled it out...turns out its the same as my 98 tdi..glad i had a new one on the shelf
at least i found out a mk3 floorpan is the same as the coop
(http://i1260.photobucket.com/albums/ii563/hillfolkvwdude/2012-06-10221520.jpg)
i also had to section the gas tank mount.after the tow to the shop, the straps were so rotted they were all broken....its gettin scary. ....i did tons of welding on the 79 and wsnt looking fwd to doin it again on the coop
i stole parts from my wrecked 98
(http://i1260.photobucket.com/albums/ii563/hillfolkvwdude/2012-06-15220934.jpg)
coop on the left...79 on the right
(http://i1260.photobucket.com/albums/ii563/hillfolkvwdude/2012-05-11225953-1.jpg)

my 98 that also serves as my painting bench for painting stuff on the 91...im gonna cut the roof off and flog it around as an airport support vehicle
leave the keys in it and its a community car..just fill the 3 liter soda bottle under the hood with fuel once in a while.thanks(tank is goin in the coop)

Welcome back.  Your pics look fine.  Any issues with the uber high compression using the 1.6 head on the 1.9?  26:1?  What's going on with the '79?

well after waterfest 07 on the way home from joisey.the timing belt tensioner stud backed out while i was in a toll booth....i hillfolked it back together in 3 or 4 hours on the side of the road and got it home..drove it another week or 2 and parked it...the lifters were all messed up...i disassembled the engine and bought a new head...then the rust was gettin horrendus,i did drivers side floorpanand inner rocker and started to lose interest..tzwhe hangar collapsed...ill get it done eventually but the coop is easier to get goin now
i got some goodies for the 79,like a quaife,a trans rebuild kit,and about 8 boxes im mixing and matching ratios from...even the 7a(84 jetta td trans code) was too short.im switching it to a 3.67r+p...i got like 2 or 3 k in parts accumulated...snow performance water injection pump, stewart warner 5 inch diesel tach,10inch be cool rad fan...its all gutted out inside now but ill leave the dash
heres the hangar collapsed around it.one plane was flat as a pancake
(http://i1260.photobucket.com/albums/ii563/hillfolkvwdude/2011-04-16171431.jpg)
total devistation

heres a fun europlate tho...u been vagged lol
(http://i1260.photobucket.com/albums/ii563/hillfolkvwdude/2012-07-16203147.jpg)

i built this for a friend when the shop was torn up..i cant stay idle..gotta build stuff....
its extremely dangerous tho..brakes rub on the tires and it does 70 with a 10hp
i took it on a midnight ride once at the shop on backroads and was out for an hour...all i could focus on was the double yellow line...glad no deer or critters ran out...that was fun but scares me if i think about it too much

my dad bought it brand new,and i remember the day he brought it home.

actually i didnt see him bring it home,i was out mowing lawns with a friend and he stopped by with it
i think it had under 200 miles..it came from another dealer.
im bugging him to find more paperwork, like the window sticker.

the guys plane that was crushed was a pa5,worth like 25k or so..hes cheap too,we talked him into putting a new engine on it too,it was very tired.the guy wasnt too upset cause he had it insured for 45k or so...he always comes out smelling like a rose cause he got the 45k check, bought it back for 1500,resold it for parts 10k for the engine, and 3 k for the rest...yea rebuild a 90 hp airplane engine, its about 10k yoikes....
the truck is my work truck,an 03 mitsubishi fuso fg 4wd
its about 9k gvw and like 145hp....i think the coop will barely out accelerate it,it def has it on the top end.it does 69 foot to the floor
i havent gteched it 0-60 yet,ill do that some day for ya ;)

got the brake likes ran to the front, filled it with fluid, and for some reason i had to remove the spring clip on the left front hose/line attachment cause it was leakin..wierd...
then i also noticed the ps lines from the pinion to the rack always look wet.i wiped em with a rag and they started leakin....goin to check GAP in a min for the cost of new ones...then ill call my local dudes poughkeepsie foreign and order  from the....ive noticed ill save 5 bucks on a 100 dolar bill and wait 4 days...the guys at the parts store will have it next day worst case and they cut me a break...i found the prop valve online for 90,they gave it to me for 100,had it that afternoon...think about it guys, check online and then see how much your quality local foreign car parts place can get it for..weigh the time vs money
if ya can wait days then get it online

awww crapola...i cant find those lines online....lines online...folks is this thing on? but seriously, would they still be avalable at the dealer?
would the mk3 ones from my 98 work?
whats the flare style? maybe i can cut it back and reflare it?
that bottom one is sweatin like 1/4 inch from the fitting
(http://i1260.photobucket.com/albums/ii563/hillfolkvwdude/2012-08-14213132.jpg)

Never had PS but I would imagine that you could put new ends on and reflare. Depends what flare is on it and what you have to reflare.
Title: Re: back from the dead.hillfolk is back yall mk2 coop build
Post by: hillfolk'r on August 16, 2012, 12:38:59 pm
wow what a mess those lines are...you cant get em seperate from the rack..they arent avalable either
they look like a double flare thats flat on the end,and theres a lil teflon sealing washer in the rack.....
i almost had to buy a rack but i looked under my mk3 parts car....thank god they are the same, and in good sahpe...so i spent last night cutting the mk2 lines out to fit a 6 point socket on them, and climbing under the mk3 with a halogen lamp that burned me about 8 times, and the blue tip wrench...one of em was almost stuck and wanted to spin the line with the fitting..so more heat and juice to get that out.i was buried in soot to my armpits cause the mk3 exhaust was broken clean off at the flex...about an hour of cursing and heating and beating got them off...wow. ..i was gettin p o ed cause i was tryin to save 260 for a rack, but hillfolk came out on top

so remember, those lines arent avalable anywhere but on a new rack
u can get the pressure and return lines all day tho
Title: Re: back from the dead.hillfolk is back yall mk2 coop build
Post by: hillfolk'r on August 16, 2012, 09:40:25 pm
heres a pic of the flare style..i 'pologize, the end is a little beat up from pliers tryin to get it out of the fitting for closer examination...

heres the lines i stole from my mk3...i put a new psi hose in that car too, wwonder if it fits also???

u know im gonna clean em and por 15 em for sure....
they were so tight i needed to use a real snap on line wrench..cheapo craftsmans flex too much...glad i drove my work truck to the shop

Blue Solo Cup, it stopped you up, no need to party...

Love the exhaust, is it pretty easy to get over the hump? What are you using for a muffler? I like the idea of it, mine doesn't have one but if it will I think I would like that what you have.
Title: Re: back from the dead.hillfolk is back yall mk2 coop build
Post by: hillfolk'r on August 19, 2012, 10:12:07 am
oh ecotx, thank you thank you..i may buy a set just to put them on the shelf then.
thats what i like about this place.people actually read your posts, and reply with solutions!
hey the man..look close, the" muffler" is there....its just a 12 inch glasspack, the dtm tip is welded to the end :)
ive got that main part all welded and goes over the axle, ive got one more bend to figure though at the back end there, cause as it sits it goes up over the axle and is pointng down as it gets over the axle..one more little angle maybe 25 degrees to get it pointing straight to the back.i gotta hang the bumper back on to get the muffler/tip orentated right and thats where ill figure that last little bend and the extension into the muffler.someday ill cut the orig toilet bowl small pipe and open it up to the 2.25 the rest of the exhaust is.
i wanna get it on the road so i can drive it,but the winter wish list is huge..

finished the exhaust today..that rear section took longer than i figured...between making hangars and lineing  it all up...prob a few hours...
then i played with lights..
i took a few romps around the taxiways...saw an indicated 80 fairly easy..gotta gps it.it feels like a racecar, always shifting its so close ratio..no body roll, and doesnt bounce like a honda.feels tight.
i gotta scrape those stickers..or keep em and grow a mullet
these are both pairs of city lights..just amber 194s..i kept clear bulbs in the marker/turn(http://i1260.photobucket.com/albums/ii563/hillfolkvwdude/2012-08-19220229.jpg)
:)heres the rear fog

haahaa.i screwed up...again...7 years or so ago anyway :)
i just put in new relays, and terminal ends on the h4 harness i made up
well when i started testing the lights,it was doin screwey things.
if i had the lows on and i just pulled the hi beam back i would only get one hi beam, but then if ya pulled the hi on with no lights on,one was low beam and one was hi..wierd,so i started examining, and ive got a hot and gnd reverswd on the right side at the plug..lol.no,rofl?
i gotta check the toe in/out whatever...ill be sure to post pics of the toestick ill make up
anyways it was late so i got that figured, and i gotta do some permanent connections and neaten up the wiring.then ill fit the grille..i hope that fits easy.the orig one that was with the kit wasnt the greatest.

That is funny. I did something similar whenever I changed the driver bulb I pulled all the wires off my relay and had fun remembering which went where. Then I remembered why I had different colored tape on them.

lol.sometimes the simplest things stump ya..i was up at the shop last nite,to get the headlights wired up...simple right?yea it was but im frazzled from work and the crackheads upstairs....
so the other nite i determined that one hot and the ground on the right beam was reversed...so i cut the connectors and swapped em...all set..NOT!!!
so now i texted trevorbr like help!!!!
i was so frazzled i pulled a bulb out and ohmed it out..im still like huh?
go old school and i grab a battery and start hookin wires...so after playin with a hot bright bulb and bein half blind i got the terminal pattern...
if you look at the h4 connecter viewed from the bulb side, its the right term thats earth, not the middle one...so now i cut and reconnect(again) the right connector(it was correct to start)
its the left side that was wrong...so i cut and reconnected that and finally yay they are bright on low beam, and bright on hi beam!!!
i woulda posted last nite but photobucket was messing up...
then i went for a ride down a taxiway around 10pm and freaked out a flock of deer and had like 25 deer run in front of me!!! errrrrrrttttt...guess what the brakes work!!!!almost wadded up sootyvag before i was legal!!!
so heres some pics.....
yay,lights
(http://i1260.photobucket.com/albums/ii563/hillfolkvwdude/2012-08-19191137.jpg)

and i put in the grille and dont look at the tape holding the grille spoiler on temporarily
(http://i1260.photobucket.com/albums/ii563/hillfolkvwdude/2012-08-22224356.jpg)
and of course, the plate..im not sure about leavin it right there.it seems the cops hassle the kids for that around here...
i still gotta drill and mount(heh, mount) the grille spoiler....but of course, the upper left hand grille clip broke, and i crazyglued it,and it broke again..ill hillfolk somethin up for it i guess..then i can put the spoiler on...
i gotta get it on the road, cause one of my pa buddies needs me to come down labor day weekend...

i havent even hooked up the side markers yet..dont know what to dothere..make them work with the blinkers?or work with the city or parking lights and a relay so the also flash with the flashers?lol playin with stupid lights like its a life decision
got a good deal on the side markers tho off ebay..got them and 2 8V emblems for 35 shipped

hey i got no time to post...sootyvag is on the road!!!!
lol
yea im thinkin to have them on with the city lights, and put relays in so they alternate flash with the blinkers
i saw a wiring thread somewhere years ago on that..i like to make things complicated :)
i already got some horn toots from the" mk4 punks" too ridin around last night
i got a bunch of stuff to make it a little better..gotta put in the carpet, the recaros, set the toe,and put on the trunk weatherstrip, and rain gutter weatherstripping...but i just had to roll it last night
i told my girl,i got my vw  "member" back last night,u know, the" p" word...and it feels so good!!!

yay.sootyvag in my driveway finally
i got the recaros and carpet back in
i got a roll of that double sided foil/jute insulation thats been sittin around for a few years i used on the trans tunnel.the orig stuff had all that tar stuff cracking off,but the rest of the floor insulation was in good shape.
i gotta put the rear seat in too.and the only door panel that is in is the drivers side.
and before it rains i gotta install the new raingutter weatherstripping.
from looking it seems like people install it usin crazyglue and not weatherstrip adhesive..any suggestions for a good crazyglue?

I sell this stuff 3M bought and is now scotchweld, but it was called Rite-lok. You should be able to find a loctite equivilant but it is really good stuff. They just set a record not too long ago by picking up a forklift and suspended it for over an hour. I think it is on Youtube. At any rate the general rule of thumb is the thinner the "super glue" the better the bond will be. They set the record with SI-100...stands for surface insensitive 100cps.

good to know..im gonna look for it..man in a way i miss ohio.i could go to cleveland or akron and find any wierd obscure item i ever needed..now in new york its sort of lame for sourcing supplies.
but anyways ill find it somewhere.
of course i didnt get anything good done today.i pulled the alternator tensioner, and got a nice rumbley bearing.so i took the number off it and will try to get one in my shop tomorrow.i pulled the alternator apart to check the bearings and they were ok.so i cleaned the slip rings and the voltage regulator connections and reinstalled it...maybe it was the rust in the pulley grooves that wiped the new belt i put on.or maybe i didnt retension it soon enough after running it in cause i saw some rubber dust floatin around after a few drives...
so i grabbed a new belt tonite at advance(wow they had one) and put it on at dusk by flashlight in the driveway.then i let it idle for a few mins and retensioned it..id like one a little shorter but at least im not maxed out on the tension and its floppin all over still.so i think ill be good if i replace that tensioner bearing.
i really should swap a tall 5th gear into it.even cruisin 45 zones its singing, and i can cruise main st in 5th gear if i want.its like a truck real short geared.
i should stop complaining hey it looks cool as hell!
id like to finish getting the interior back in before i go to my friends place this weekend
its normally a 2 hr drive.ill figure itll take 2.5 :)
i think the springs are settling in nicely because theres places in the driveway that have peaks and i was kicking the spoiler as i was working on it.ive scraped 1 or 2 times, not bad,but i didnt expect it either.
ill be honest, theres definitely  tire ruts in the driveway making this look exaggerated, but its still hard to get your shoe under the center
slow and low is ok with me....lol i really gotta get that 79 tdi-m running again :)

uh oh....i" think" my ip is goin....after i got to pa for the weekend..its gutless...itll rev max rpm,but no power.i looked for suction leaks, found none.fuel line is clear when running...checked lift pump with a vacuum guage,it pulls liklike inches, and i see it pulling fuel..i checked the return banjo..its not blocked.i pulled the sender out of the tank.nice and clean.now, driveability?no missing but part throttle over 2500 its so rattly and pingy..sounds like maybe the advance is stuck?...if you rev it up from odle, its real lazy revving up,like it soes suck air,but again i see no air...tonite ill try running it from a can and maybe pull the" ksb" solenoid from the front of the pump and seeif the advance piston is stickin?
hey if i need the pump redone im sure you guys can help.
i did a cyl drop test all hit fineand my under car water seperator is removed too...
fuel drained from filter was cclean
i see 8v /fury now rebuilds pumps..i just want a stock rebuild nothin special.its been redone once and the place put dual o rings on the throttle shaft, nice feature...
btw its like a" turbo" pump, but has the crap hooked up for altitude compensation instead of boost...its a 91na...want pics lemme know

well i made a tool(dad did actually) to pull the regulator out...it was intact.i swapped another one..same thing.i can tell when i rev it up,its all slow to rev...i guess im gonna pull the pump off this weekend and tear the top off and the advance covers and see if i can find a problem
heres the tool dad made to grab the 2 flats.a wrench was spreading

hey thanks for the reminder....i had the sending unit out...free and clear
thanks for reminder cause i took out the check valve at the tank, and i can blow thru it both ways!!i got a new old stock one tho....
yea i blew thru the line from the filter back thru to the tank..yummy tasting fuel.
im using the mk3 tank, the sender/pickup is a little different...
and no air in the clear inlet line when its running...
update tonite:
thanks punkvideo81 (evan)
he has a friend thats gonna sell me a "mk1 rabbit na" pump off a runner for 75 bux...gonna pick it up saturday, yay

hey i got 1 question tho:
the 91 pump has "long" delivery valves, the mk1 rabbit pump has short ones if i remember right...
can i swap the delivery valves and guts from one to the other?

i" think" i got some mk1 rabbit injector lines laying around....well at least i got 3 because i cut one to make an adapter for my bosch pop tester.i only had 1 line that fit the tdi style injectors and they have larger thread.

im sure i can mix and match stuff hopefully to get it right...
i figured swapping the deivery valves would be easiest tho if i cant find a whole set of rabbit/mk1 lines

I know others like Libbydiesel who have swapped the entire delivery valve setup over and had no issues at all. IIRC they swap everything inside the valve not just the outer bodies.

yes.10-4 copy that big motha trucka  ;D
ill swap over the whole thing.body, spring, valve, and shim or whatever else is floating around in there.
since im bored tonite ill limp it to the shop and install some interior bits.i gotta grab a can of vinyl paint.years ago i was dumb and cut a hole in the drivers side kneebar for the radio and now i dont want it there.i got an extra grey kneebar so ill dye it black.
i dont think ill get ambitious enough to actually put a radio in,so ill fake the hole with the new south guage panel and some nonfunctioning guages :)

You will need to adjust the max fuel after swapping the delivery valves but after adjustment I have not found any discernible difference in running.

hey no prob on the help earlier...yea i had fun with that pump today, what a! ##%&**&%##$$%%&!!!!!
i got the pump no problem, thank you punkvideo81 from his friend....it was sitting for a few years in a schoolbus/ storage shed:)
i swapped the delivery valves and put the tab on for the solenoid..i brushed the dirt off around the inlet banjo and return and filled it with a combo of atf and diesel..
note:one delivery valve from the 91s pump had the valve stuck in the body.i could push the center with a punch so i let it go
i started on it around 6:15pm,and was done at 12:15am...nice 6 stressful hours...
i had it running by 930,but after a little ride around the shop,i pull back in and its idling and it quit..im like wtf? so i start it and it cranked like it was losin prime and fired..i an around the front and it was gettin lumpy and i saw tons of air in the supply line and it quit again..jeez criminy!!..so dad fires it up and im lookin with a light and theres fuel misting in the air!!!!darn it,darned pump shaft seal!!!i know it looked nasty shoulda changed it on the bench!!!
reason it took so long was it probably took an hour to find my pump gasket kit.i salted it away and hid it on myself....
we" practiced" pulling a seal on an old pump laying around and finally i said lets just go for it...
wait it gets better,i drilled a few holes and threaded a screw in and the screw popped...i finally got it but what a pain...and to top it off putting the new seal in it started ok and got crooked enough i couldnt get it out so i was able to stack washers on the shaft and use the gear to push it in...oh sometimes things go bad from the start...i was tense cause i didnt wanna use dads car to go home and screw up his plans.i just wanted it fixed...maybe not my best moments wrenching but i got it done ok....and yea i turned the fuel in...it felt ok,but the screw was looking at me saying turn me turn me:)
i turned it in to the lock collar, probably a little more than 1/2 a turn and earballed the idle so it wouldnt run away...definately a noticeable improvement and id get a slight little haze when id blip the throttle hard...
i think i need a little more though so its worthy of my" sootyvag" europlate:)
ill see how it hazes during the day.i want enough so i know its a diesel, not like my 79 that makes headlights disappear  at night:)
thank god i had a seal tho or i woulda been stuck like chuck!!

ah shoot,mr.roadkill what do you mean by a cabby kneebar should be avalable?im not gettin hostile, just wonderin....
i wanted to put my center console back in and the under dash plastic....
actually i gotta check an old parts stash...i had the little shelf for the right side in my old caddy pickup i had a mk2 dash swapped into,i may have kept it.and the left side has a fuse door access and maybe a little shelf also?
i have a spare unmolested kneebar laying around from an old car its just grey/gray,not black like ol'sootyvag...i figured a 5 buck can of vinyl dye would do the trick
man the power seats are nice!amazing how good a seat can feel to you when its all adjusted right.it holds me in and i can sit with my head against the headrest actually.i guess thats why recaros are so coveted, its more than a name.
its runnin good and the roaring pipes came back.yea somethin was really wrong with the advance in that pump almost from the startup...guess i gotta save a few pennies and send it out for a redo.from what i see its easy to convert for turbo usage.i think i can scare enough parts to throw a stock td setup on it.id be nice to jave the straight pipe again to hear that whistle. .i really miss that.
thats an over the winter project though, and i should start on my 79 for the winter too.

Console and ducts,installed
griots bumper and trim restorer,3/4 done.

I got a new bearing for the idler also, and sourced a shorter alt belt at advance
10+685,vs the stock 10+700...i ran out of adjustment.
im thinkin an 11mm wide belt may be needed.

I also played with some red metalcast,on the reverse lamp.
i dont know how legal it is,or how much confusion its gonna cause people when i back up,as long as my inspection guy lets it go

Of course tinker,fiddle,and whatnot..
im stripping out the mk3....
the trunk CARPET seems like it'll fit in the coop.
nicer than that foam stuff on the inner sides...
and I've got no tunes either.yea the exhaust note is nice, but I need some other noise too.so I noticed the mk3s radio fits nicely.just keepin it all vw :)
now if my friend I lent my mk3 bentley to can find it,I need the mk3 wiring diagram so I can hook this bad boy up!!

Yea I could sit there for an hour or 2 and bug out the mk3 wiring, but why do that if I don't have to?
I got a friend of a friend that's gonna give me his password to elsa, but im waitin on that an d gettin itchy..I want tunes...maybe too I could swap some speakers too,id imagine the mk3 ones are a little better...yes I have the radio code :)

Did someone say they like stickers???

Im still having an alternator belt issue.i replaced the idler/tensioner bearing to be safe, but itll stretch in a week and require retensioning.a 10+700 got maxed out so i went to a 10+685 and its close to maxed out now too.i wonder if i should try a 11mm wide belt?
other than that its runnin fine.its not snowin yet,so im still drivin..
its been a while since ive updated, and until the 15th this month i gots no tv or internets at my new house..yes house, yay me.no more tweakers and thugs lookin at my sooty girl.thats her 04 passat tdi.sort of a rare car around here.

I found the lil sticker from the back of the mk3 radio i mentioned a while ago so hopefully this will be enough for me to figure out the wiring.

This was at a job. I had to put a new exhaust system on a peashooter. In order to be a wiseass i poured a quart of motor oil in the muffler before assembly. I like doin that its one of my joys i get to do at work. Dont worry it clears up after 20 mins and now you have a well lubricated muffler

This was a job we did in the bronx recently where we needed to replace the coupling between the motor and the generator.

Oh i also turned the fuel up in sooty. Basically i turned the idle screw all the way down , then adjusted the idle per the fuel screw. Haha first run where i really got on it i fogged out the 2 lanes of traffic behind me.  Aah the good old days. Now its got enough power though itll spin the tires when ya flatfoot it in first geAr clutch out.

I hope im posting the right video links for you guys to see

Looks like you have quite an eclectic work schedule.  How's work pace after Sandy?  Is the Nor'easter keeping you busy with the reported 700 thousand without power?

And it's cool to see you installed a Bond gadget on your ccoupe:  the smoke screen! :)  Big BadPpump, funny.

I did have a serious question though.  How do the low profile 13" wheels and tires affect your speedo, acceleration, and highway mileage?

I was thinking the same thing. Also did you go with that size wheel cause it was available, or do you plan on gettin low. There is a swimming pool of wheel well goin on there. I too love the coal out the back. I really need to do the governor mod...

Yea man we were jammed up after sandy i was dodgin tree limbs and power lines. Drivin thru yards. Whatever i had to do to get to customers that were down. I wasnt down further than rye ny and that was bad enough.
The lil wheels i had to have cause i just like the old ats classics ever since i was little my dad almost got a set for his 72 2002 but he went with minilites.
Yea my speedo is about 10 mph off according to my gps. Im reading 60 and the actual speed is 50. But this thing sticks like glue now. It used to be a little tail happy and im not sure if it still is because i havent found the adhesion limit. Mileage? Still over 40 like always. Its got an awy gearbox(basically 84 gti ratios) so i was already geared short. Im sure some guys wouldnt like the 4000 rpms @true 65 mph. Hey its a bar hopper an around town car now. I woulda done wider but im not cuttin on this car. They def look small but in person they look better. Im runnin the neuspeed sport springs and had to get jom spring caps for the front to get it a little lower. I could also use these on my 79 when thats done too. Haha when people ask why such a small wheel i look at em like 20s r stupid. I roll with a 20 inch tall tire. Its ok because i have a big package. Most people with 20s and 24s must be lacking something in their pants.
It accelerates better now and would be awesome for the drags, its probably geared perfect cause its pretty easy redlining 5 th. who in their right mind drags a na though?
Hope i answered your questions :)

Ive got normal wheels on it right now so my speedo is correct. The tach is my peashooter vdo 2 inch diesel tach. What i really should do is a before and after test on turning up my pump using my gtech. Problem is i dont wanna turn it back down for the baseline :)

Yea the orig was black. If im pickin nits id want em less glossy. I probably won't paint them for a while anyways. There's always other stuff to do like fix the drivers worn door hinges and replace the automatic opening drivers window. I suspect the regulator is shot and when you open it an inch it rolls itself down

A few weeks ago, i put a new window regulator in the drivers side door. The only people that have ever been in there are my dad and me. I dont think i had the door panel off for any reason when i first got it.
And i think the only time he has been in there is to jumper out the seat belt interlock or lube up the window track.
Hey dad, i found your screwdriver thats been missing for the last 10 or 15 years :)
