Title: How to remove rtv??

used rtv on an oil pan last year now I wanna do it the right way and its caked on down in the elongated dimpels on the edge of pan. suggestions? this a real head to wall problem.

Yeah I'm voting for mechanical removal; I doubt there's any kind of solvent that'd be useful against RTV.

I've found that naptha (also called "white gasoline") seems to be the only solvent that dissolves silicone stuff well...

You're looking for either zippo lighter fluid or Coleman camp stove fuel. Both contain naptha.

i hate that stuff, it was all over a couple engines i broke down recently.  they used it everywhere in addition to gaskets.  intake/exhaust, seal carrier, even the damn thermostat housing haha.

i would suggest you spend the money after cleaning all that stuff up and get the all rubber gasket that you can reuse with the windage tray built in.

One gallon of elbow grease later its all cleaned up and installed.
