Title: My VW (powered) Truck
Post by: Vitwagen on June 18, 2012, 02:30:06 pm
Here's my pride and Joy.

Suzuki Vitara (Sidekick/tracker in the US) with big tyres, big suspension, and, most importantly, AAZ engine.

It's fitted to the standard transmission with an Acme adapters plate/flywheel. 2.5" downpipe & exhaust with glasspack, Gov mod, K&N panel filter, Mocal oil cooler and sandwich plate. Lots o' custom bits in the install.

It goes a little better with the AAZ compared to the Asthmatic 1.6 it had!

Hehe... I'm on the 2nd gearbox, this is a recon one. Been through a few transfer boxes... and the prop UJs aren't lasting as long as they used to!

It does about 25K miles a year, including getting a good beating offroad, so I'm not complaining. The torque is worth it.

ahhh so jealous! Been looking at Vitaras to replace my 106 daily, and a diesel swap just makes it perfect! How easy was the swap to do?
One day...
Looking great there :)

Not too bad, It's mainly bolt-in, and I'd never done an engine swap or similar before. I've a (tedious) build thread if you're interested. Getting about 35 MPG (UK) at the moment.

Sweet! I guess you're using the Acme plate? Jeff was great to deal with. I was lucky enough to be in Oregon a few years ago, and he had plenty of time for a lost Brit.

well, i live in oregon, so the acme kit would be easy to obtain.

im not positive that im using the acme plate tho, i may just roll my own adapter plate and re-index a toyota flywheel. getting a pilot bearing/bushing thats the right size is the hard part..
