the ASF will have the large 6 pin switch.

your 91 takes a 2 pin switch, and has a 2 pin connector for that switch. i suppose you could hack the connector off an 85-88 golf/jetta and wire up the reverse light portion of it to a relay, that supplys power to the original switch wiring..

the old 6 pin switches were very finicky, they had the power of the back up lights run thru the switch, and the contacts would degrade over time, then quit working..

is there a tranny with the same gearing as the asf or a c n. that will have the right plug in it?

not that im aware of.

are you seriously afraid to do a little wiring, but will happily tackle a trans swap?!

its seriously 2 wires that need to be cut and have another plug installed..

basically just cut off connector and put a few spade terminals on and plug into correct terminals in trans?

thats what i told him..

doing it that way takes all the electrical strain off the reverse switch, provided that the ASF switch is even still good.. theres a good chance the switch is already dead..

i know you did.. was copy paste (was trying to not have to grab keyboard.. but ahh well)... but bbob's last reply was plug right into switch... i wanted to post it a 2nd time for him...

now a fyi...

relay

30= power
87 = to backup lights
85 ground
86 power

how i do the relay on this...

original rev light power wire to 30 and 86
other original wire goes to tail lights 87

85 then goes to switch... other side of switch goes to ground..

so you only add 2 pieces of wire per say.. its simple... not hard and will extend life of the $$$$$$ switch..

thats the primary reason i said anything about the relay trick..

i dont really have much room to talk tho.. my 86 GTI, still has original wiring and switch.. works good tho.
