Hi all,
A good friend and great mechanic is selling a car in New Hampshire. Make him an offer. Give him a call, he'll tell you about it. Here is the link. http://nh.craigslist.org/cto/3005140486.html (http://nh.craigslist.org/cto/3005140486.html) Hope that works. Thanks

dang, if I had the 2500 and a way to get out there, Id go buy it and drive it home!!!
-
unless I'm interested in buying I usually don't comment on FS threads because I consider it a form of trolling but really...WTF is the world coming to? A 98 Jetta TDI with 310k mi and a rusted out body for 2500????? OP please tell...why is this car worth 2500? does it have a new injection pump and turbo last week? A new VW longblock 40k mi ago? gimme a break.
we are screwed

why would you cannibalize a perfectly good electronic TDI to make it mechanical?!
that makes no sense at all..
an E-TDI is WAY BETTER than a M-TDI..
especially a mk3.. those should NEVER be cannibalized..
I would rather have an mTDI than an eTDI. The only things "better" about the eTDI are slight on-the-fly timing adjustment and OBD. Downsides are OBD ( ;D), big complications and crappy electronic parts that are 15 years old. My mTDI has been much more reliable than the eTDIs I've dealt with and is more easily tunable.

really? because i swear ive heard lots of people claim otherwise about the electronic controls..
im not surprised tho.. its alot easier to turn some bolts on your pump, and have it be tuned, rather than having to plug in and program it..

The VW mk3 platform wasn't really known for having "good" electronics. Also, "limp home" mode that comes on when any stupid little thing goes wrong.
I want a mtdi. I've seen engines alone sell for $2500 around here. :o

yea, that car is worth 2500 on the west coast..
I WOULD PROLLY PAY ~$2000 FOR IT if i had the money..
TDI engine swaps are $1000 - $1500 all day long on this end of the country..

you guys pissin all over this thread IMO..
now value... when was intake pulled and cleaned last? timming belt service?? if recent ~1k to pay someone for those 2 jobs...
if this guy been working on it long time got maintence records on this stuff.. so value better...
now to take my leak.. i paid 600 for my tdi swap with bad pump.. car rotted out... rover pump, parts for full rebuild =~2k with 02a swap.. he can sell the electronic stuff for 1kish, pump and all, buy a rover pump.. and go m for under 2k.. unless rebuild required..
so my worthless $0.02

IMHO if left around stock power then I think that the MTDI makes sense. If you want to go nuts and 225hp plus then I think the only economical option is ETDI.
I agree with CRSMP5 as there are many factors to what the value is. If it is 100% perfect needing nothing but a shell, then this isn't bad. If it needs everything then not so much...He said the guy would talk about it.
Either way good luck with the sale

I understand when people say "value". I agree, when my first car was an 81 rabbit LS diesel you could barely give them away when used. Times have certainly changed. A couple of years ago the AAZ's were worth their weight in gold, now they seem to have mellowed. If you read the link, the Timing belt has been replaced and water pump. For me it is not worth it, but I don't want to build something else. I just let him know that I would help him out. His name is Rich and he is quite active on the TDI club page. So if you are interested, and you are looking to do this give him a call. Thanks
