Any idea if this might be a good way to get new pumps? He says they're for generators, so I'm guessing the governor mechanism (and perhaps a few other things, like cold start advance, clearly the delivery valves) would need to be swapped out, but other than that I think it should work. Any thoughts? Anyone tried this?

I've done it personally. It does spin the right way, the accelerator lever rotates the right way, the mounting holes are correct which are a few of the most important bits, but it's a 20mm short snout pump. No VW sprocket will fit it without custom (expensive) machining. Governor is wrong. Timing advance curve is wrong. All of that can be remedied, but IMO it's a really expensive new pump for a VW when you're done.
