I just changed my air filter, and that... thing... is what I found.

I've been told that that thing is a GASSER air filter. It's about half the height of the new DIESEL filter I just put in, FWIW.

NOOOOOOO!

Various tests have shown that there's no performance advantage to a K&N.

However, it has been proven that a K&N allows a higher flow... of dirt...

looks like you rolled over a sheep!

I've found no measurable power difference between paper and k&n. However, there was always a layer of grit on the inside of the turbo inlet pipe when using k&n. Paper, no.

k&n went straight into the garbage.

So now you tell me.... How often did you clean the filter?? I was changing the  paper ones every 6 months and now with the K&N I'm going to be doing the clean every 3 months... The first cleaning will be March 1st I will let you know what I find.. My thinking was $70.00 once and be able to clean the filter where ever I was.. Instead of ordering the thick filters everytime for $12.00...

you probably shouldnt clean the k&n very often. they seem to get more efficent at trapping dirt as they collect dirt from age.

My completely non-scientific test for K&N's unworthiness:

Coat intake tube with a bit of fine grease.  Run stock filter for month.  Swab finger down tube, notice how gritty it is.

Clean intake tube, re-coat with grease.  Run K&N for a month.  Swab finger down tube, prepare one's self to be shocked by how much more grit is getting through the filter.

Chuck K&N filter in garbage, replace stock paper air filter.
