i was turnin the wheel, and there was a short bbzzzzttt, and then a big wisp of smoke!
happened twice
then the seatbelt light came on a few times (over next to brake)
i was like damn i just rebuilt the motor now i'm going to lose the car
hasn't happened again, and i haven't noticed any obvious side effects. i guess the fuse blew.
common?
-
Hasn't happened again because you let the ghost out.
You are going to need a new one.
Shipping from Middle Earth ain't cheap.

Horn still work? That ring in the center and wire going to it are kind of a flimsy affair after 20 yrs.
-
ok, my car did almost this same thing! but THEN it got bad, my car caught fire. for me it was a bad ground from my battery to my body, my cold start carried all my current and caught fire...
PLEASE worst case make sure you keep a good fire extinguisher in your car weather you fix this or not, even if it shows no more signs. I would still have my mk1 diesel if I hadnt lost the entire dash and wiring to the fire, (I rewired by hand, and wired a new gauge cluster to the steering column but it wasnt the same, so I sold it
-
Horn never did work.
Billy bob what a terrible story! Ugh. Made me cringe at the thought. I think I will follow this advice.
I do, however, have a doubled up ground from the f250 mod that got me thru winter.

Just clicked on the Fuelly. 144 mpg. So you really only use two gallons to go 288 miles? You must be one of them political statistic guys. Talk about spin doctoring the facts.

isnt WMO pretty bad on the invironment? like produce carcinogens?
-
So does the back yard bar b que and I don't see anyone turning away from all those $5,000 grills set out at Home Depot or Lowes or anywhere else.
Does the diesel burn cleaner than WMO? Interesting question.

Yes.
Also, so is cow flatulence
-
that is one way of looking at it, I have access to LOTS of wmo, I mean LOTS, but it might also have other oils like gear oil brake fluid and the such but in much smaller ammounts
-
Really? You lucky bastard! Round here they are paying a buck forty a gallon for damn wmo! All my sources wanna charge me now. :'(
If you are going that route, I have a write up, going from the beginning to (most recently) runnin 100% wmo (not advisable)
Gear Oil = mix with gas, don't run high concentrations. Brake fluid should settle to bottom, along with water, goat vomit, anti freeze, etc.
Can save loads of cash.
-
hmm, I wonder if they pay us for our wmo? I work at a place driving sandrails, and we operate four 4.3 vortec's about 10hrs a day 7 days a week, so we burn through SOME oil, nowhere near a regular supply.
-
Cow Flatulence is just real high in Methane and captures heat much worse than CO2 in the upper atmosphere. But who is up that high to notice? Oh Global warming affects the weather. That is why we are freezing butt on the West Coast this spring and the Midwest is turning on the AC in March.

That seems fair to me. What, with crude oil being $100+ for a 55 gallon barrel, I resent giving used oil away for free to the store where I bought it.
Some of the crude oil, the way it comes out of the ground, is pretty nasty too, depending on the grade.
-
Had the same thing happen to my porsche 924s after an engine swap. A whisp of smoke and nothing else. After further investigation the smoke was the wiper, turn signal switch setup melted together along with a few other wires. Its the same ignition switch setup as the mk1/mk2.

barrels of crude are 42 gallons last time i checked...

So 55 is like a bonus barrel? New Improved Family size. More for more money.
