Title: Chrome Injector bodies?

How does eveyone feel about chroming their injector bodies to stop rust and for looks?Is this a good or bad idea?Thanks

Chrome isn't a very durable finish. I think it'd be difficult to get the injectors back together and in the car without screwing up the chrome. Powder coat would probably be better.

Actually it's not the chrome plating that prevents corrosion but the prior surface prep like a copper flash or electroless nickel that is the real corrosion prevention.  The chrome is nice looking though.  Obviously you'd want to mask the injector interior becuase if you get any chrome in there it's likely to screw up the injector tolerances.  The plating house will mask those areas easily and give advice about how to acomplish your goals.  Just make sure it's clear to them that chrome inside will ruin it.  While you're at it you may as well do the injector lines too.  It all has to be polished to get that Chrome look though.  Not something I'd be excited about.

I've never had any prob with corrosion so for my money I'd just wipe down with oil and letter go.  Put a touch of antisieze on the threads and sillycone around the top of the threads so dirt stays out of the threads in use.

Thanks for the help so far guys.I do not know much about the proess of chroming.I was think of a way to dress up and stop rust in the engine area also what does Diesel do to chrome?Thanks

The only way to know for sure is if one of us happens to know a great deal about it, or if you call a plating place and ask them.  They're generally very helpful and knowledgeable about the performance of various kinds of platings.  I dealt with a place at my former job where we we had electroless nickel and anodizing done.

Check out the injectors at ColoradoBiodiesel.com.  Tom does something to them to prevent salt corrosion; it's not chrome, but they are silver and look nice.

I did some ceramic coated ones, look pretty slick, you can coat them even on the threads because the ceramic coating is so thin.

I'll try and get soem pics, the reason was they look cool I guess, looks a hell of a lto better than rust plus you can coat the whole thing including threads. I am thinking about offering rebuilt injectors with ceramic coating anyone interested?
