Title: filter to pump fuel line info needed
Post by: derekp on April 03, 2012, 05:44:51 am
my fuel line from the filter to the IP (92 eco diesel) is a black line factory crimped to a clear nylon line.
It appears to be "sucking air" at the crimp (I can actually move the black line around on the clear line at the crimp)
VW shows that line to be a 2 piece (using a hose clamp) where mine is crimped.
I need to replace the black line (mine is also quite dried out)

Has any of you done this without issue? I'm hesitant to cut the crimp off and try to put a 5/16 line back onto the nylon line - dont know if it will fit snug enough!
(and I have no "backup" in case this doesnt work!)

Any info appreciated...
thanks.

Many of us have used the right sized line from an ATV or chainsaw shop. If you eliminate everything to the barbs on the banjo bolts and use a nice smooth hose clamp, like they sell on autohaus az, you will have no troubles. You can use diesel rated black hose, but you won't be able to see the air in it if it gets any.

This thread (http://www.vwdiesel.net/forum/index.php?topic=30768.0) has several fuel line suggestions.

I presume this means that those shops have metric sized clear line that stands up to diesel?
And it will fit over the barb fitting on the pump as well as the flare on the filter?
thanks!

short answer,  YEP

Longer, bring a barb and fit to the line they have.

I've not really found a noticeable difference between metric and U.S. fuel line sizes, they are really close and when clamped down, I personally don't think it matters. I've used "standard" sized fuel line on every European car I've owned.

8 mm is 0.31496 inch
5/16 is 0.312

Don't worry about the 0.00296 difference. I don't think hoses are made to such tight tolerances lol.
