So I bought this gas wagon a while ago, have put a lot of parts on it, pulled the head a while back to repair some broken studs for the exhaust manifold, and since then got my MK2 up and running and this car has been sitting in my garage since gathering dust.
I needed to order some special tools to align the head, and have just never gotten around to it, and my work and travel schedule is picking up, so I doubt im getting to it any time soon.
The car is complete, comes with pretty much all the parts to put the head back on with a new head gasket and timing belt, (the engine ran great up until I pulled the head) ORRRR ;D
this would make a heck of a great shell to drop a TDI or 1.6 diesel into.
Its a FWD 5-speed, no rust, mint interior, and could be a great project for someone. Im just not getting around to it, and donating a lot of time to another project id like to complete on another car. My loss is your gain basically, you have more than 500 dollars in new parts on the front suspension alone.
Also available with the car are some kick a$$ 5-spoke rims, but they would be an additional 500 bucks since i JUST had them powdercoated and balanced.
Here are a few pics of the car, and below a thread that lists everything done since I have had it over on vortex.

Heres the thread I started about this car, here you can basically read all about it. It had some rear quarter damage which is fixed, but still a little tweaked.

the car is located in woonsocket RI. I could be convinced to deliver it up to a certain distance if you pay for fuel and a dolly, but it doesn't hurt to ask. Please PM me if interested.

no 4 banger is easily going to transplant then..
an audi 2.0 TD tho... ;D 8)

That would be nice. ;D
I was never able to definitively discover whether the 5-speed that bolts to this GL-5 would match a 1.6 TD that was in the quantum diesels. there is decent engine space though, since the radiator is over on the driver side. You could also move in a more normal radiator layout. I had an 83 quantum TD for a brief period, and it had a standard radiator.
Heres a few comparison pics-
This is the GL-5 engine bay-

(i want your intake boot)

I should add that the GL-5 head has been repaired, all the broken studs have been extracted and the holes repaired properly by a machine shop buddy of mine. Just needs to be reattached.

the 4cyl and 5 cyl trannies had MUCH DIFFERENT bell housings..
some later cars had a UNISEX bell housing, making it easy to bolt up BOTH kinds of engines, but i dont think they came until the 90s..
