Title: 36mm Oil pump
Post by: Dozier on March 10, 2012, 09:13:57 am
I have a 1.6D and I added a turbo to it recently and I was wondering if it was necessary to add the 36mm oil pump to help out. I understand that it would probably be a good idea. But is it necessary.

Thanks for everyone's time.

Lots of people think it's a worthy upgrade. My TD does fine with a 30mm pump. Check your oil pressure, and if it seems low.. maybe it would be a good idea.

I think that the bigger pump is for the piston oil squirters. If you don't have them then you probably don't need it.

stock TD engines (with piston coolers) used 30mm pumps..

I think the hydro TD 1.9 engines had the 36mm.

At any rate the extra from it will not hurt.

I stand corrected on sizes. It does take a certain amount of energy to produce a given amount of volume and pressure. Therefore, a bigger pump will take more horsepower to turn. While in our engines at normal speeds the difference is miniscule, it will also affect your MPG as well. If you have accessories like turbo, coolers, extra filters and larger bearing clearances, then the added volume may be warranted. Like the guys who use triple valve springs with a mild cam, you don't need more than you need. It takes more power and wears out faster for nothing.

Chris...when we texted you mentioned 36mm. I have a 30mm for the record...not a 36mm.

I run this pump daily at 20-25psi on my daily with EGTs over 1200 sometimes and no issues.

HTH,
