Just as the post indicates, How much play is acceptable before the bushing needs to be replaced?

Is it leaking fuel?  I normally change the bushing if it's leaking fuel and changing the o-ring doesn't fix the problem.  A little play is acceptable.  You can also check to make sure the nut holding the lever on is tight.

The pump did not leak from the throttle shaft when pulled. A new o-ring was installed on the throttle shaft, and it was a tight fit to get the throttle shaft back in to the lid of the pump.
