Title: TT 65 Shore rear trans mount too hard?
Post by: wolf_walker on February 05, 2012, 03:37:02 pm
Anyone running one on an IDI?  Vibes bad?  Looking for less rocking on/off throttle.
They have that and a harder front snubber as well.

I was running a poly trans mount in my MK2 and after a week it was fine.

I figured poly would vibe like hell and then rip back there, seems like the gasser guys were tearing them up not to long ago.
Hmm.

TT makes an 80 shore as well I think in rubber.  That's poly hardness range I believe.

I ran prothane poly all around for a while on a mkI, I ended up changing the front and rear mounts to rubber to lessen the nvh. I imagine if you were running front and rear poly and had rubber sides it might not be too bad? Do you have an interior, carpet, pad etc?

What's left of the interior after 600K and change, yeah.  It ain't quiet as it is, but it's alright.
I think I'll try the 65 or 80 rear mount.  And find something to coat it in to keep the oil off it.

I've a leaky slider so I ripped my soggy/moldy carpet out a while back. I'm thinking in the future about laying some dynamat and rolling truck bedliner over it. It's pretty loud but I like loud/rattly old stuff so it works for me.

Slider been leaking in mine for a decade.  Still metal under there somehow.  I don't think I could stand it without carpet.

I read rear as trans mount... I have a poly insert for the rear and it was horrible on the vibration. I have a G60 mount for the front, the poly trans mount, and a stock rear. That is good, I would like it to be stiffer, but the poly mount in the rear was way too much. I drove it 1/2 mile and back then took it out. During driving it was awesome, but at idle it was insane. You couldn't see out of the mirrors. The rear mount is the one that transfers all the vibration.

This is MK2 correct, as that is what mine is.

I'm sorry, its an A1 Caddy.
And I meant the rear trans mount. :)

Well, MK1 is completely different. I have riden in my buddies 8v gasser with full poly and it wasn't as bad as my diesel with the poly insert and trans mount. You will have to get advice from someone that did it in a diesel mk1, sorry.

i swapped in just the rear mount and it vibrated alot all other mounts were stock on a basically stock td in a mki.  i have heard u can do poly side and front mounts but not the rear in a mk1.  i'm curious how the bfi mounts would feel.

Poly or stiff rubber you used?

I have a writeup on here about poly mounts, of course they're probably harder than any rubber mount but you'll get an idea.

Rear trans mount was terrible, I got like halfway home and turned around and went back to the shop to put the rubber one back in. Way too noisy at idle and certain other rpm. Front mount got used a couple days, but cruising was fine but the idling was really bad and I couldn't stand it. Shifted nice though.......

I'm still of the opinion that the A1 mount setup just leaves a lot to be desired, even on the gassers I've had.

I appreciate the info guys, I'll spring for the stiffer TT rubber one and see what's up I guess.

after my 1.6D swap from gas I put in front and trans poly mounts with HD mounts on the pass and drivers side.
I will be honest, it vibrates alot mostly when cold but if its below 2*C/36*F it will shake till the car is warmed up.  Not so bad once spring rolls around though.

But that being said I love how responsive the engine feels
