That advert is from three years ago so they may be available. Does anybody care about DOT approved lights? Do cops or inspectors ever check your headlamps for the DOT approval?

Click on the link to the online catalog page and it says they have DOT approval.   It's just a different type of bulb, not brighter per se.   Available at Amazon among others:  http://www.amazon.com/Truck-Lite-27250C-Round-Headlamp-Inches/dp/B002IFRROM (http://www.amazon.com/Truck-Lite-27250C-Round-Headlamp-Inches/dp/B002IFRROM)

I've been told that one problem with most LED lights is that they don't put out enough head to melt snow or ice which can cause problems in the northern part of our world.   Not sure about headlights, but I know local truckers who switched their trailers to LEDs and then switched back because they couldn't keep their brake and turn signal lights clear.

that is true....i have 6 years of stump to dump logging all over BC and Aberta mostly winter work.....and you really dont want LED lights on your trailer.....they get snowed over very fast....its a real pain for any one comming behind you....at night your almost invisable....

Military and utilities use them because they work.
I put some 18W LED worklights on an electric golf cart, and they get pretty warm despite a hefty aluminum heat sink.  They are about as bright as a normal low beam headlight, and have much wider dispersion.
