Title: Shift gates totally wonky

The top is the normal shift pattern, with red being the reverse lockout.

The bottom is my shift pattern. Wonky, huh?

(Of course, the gears are: top row: R135, bottom row: 24)

I'm suspecting shift bushings, but I don't want to just throw parts at the problem.

Does your shifter move from side to side when its in gear?

Yes, it does. I'm assuming that that means that my theory about the bushings is right?

Replace the shifter bushings,and anything else in there that's loose.You should be able to reach down from up top under the hood,and grab the linkage to see what all is gone.

The parts place in Michigan sells a good kit.  It comes with the arms and all the bushings.  I think it is around $20.  In the bentley it shows how everything goes together really top notch diagram.

Yep, includes a couple rods, too.

Also, what repair group is the shifter bushing stuff under? 34 - Maunal Transmission - Controls? (Mine's the 85-only edition.)

Or, should I just look on the ep0niks version?

Edit: Ah, didn't make it clear that that's the product photo that the seller used. I ordered it last night ;)

Hey bhtooefr,
I think you're asking about the small plasic linkage right?  If that's the case then all you need to do is unsnap the plastic clasps- I like to use a small flat-head screwdriver.  Then using the same screwdriver or a bigger one pop the ball sockets off the metal balls.  Don't forget to put some compatable lube on the new one (and the rest of the linkage parts) to have that nice smooth shifter feel.

Yes, I got the lube that the ep0niks Bentley recommended. G 000 602, which has been replaced by a much less memorable part number. It's molybdenum bisulfide grease, or high-melting point CV joint grease.

$14.something for 120 grams. I guess I should use the leftovers to lube up for next time I need to get lubes from my local stealership (and I even get wholesale prices there, all because I'm on one forum).
