Title: Tire fitment, a few questions if you will.
Post by: 8v-of-fury on January 10, 2012, 12:17:34 pm
I think I recall you having a balloon of a tire ed.. what size was it? I was looking at some 195/70/14 summitomo's to put on my snowflakes for my 84 jetta. I was wondering if they'd fit on there in place of my 185/60/14's.

This website says they wont be too much bigger, and I don't think I have any clearance issues upwards, it would be a much wider tire that would be the issue..

i had some 185/70/14s, and they were HUGE.. they rubbed, and were just too big for the car.. this was on a stock height mk2. they REALLY RUBBED on my mk1..

and a 195/70/14's are even bigger, so i imagine they would rub even worse..

I run 205s on a stock 6" wide et 35 rim and they aren't even close to rubbing on my mk2.

I have 185 70R 14's on my MK1 and they don't rub.  And I have had it pretty close to the GVW recently.

They fill the wheel well up with about an inch front and back but the top clears well.

205 whats? what size wheel?

i had 205/40/17's on 17x7 wheels on my mk2, and they almost rub the strut tower.. any bigger tire, or wider wheel and they would be rubbing the strut.

you got em on 'flakes tho.. prolly a little farther in the fender than mine. my tires always rubbed the arches of the fender..

mine were on ET25 Enkei 92s in 14x6 size..

Yeah they are tucked inside the wheel well rather nicely.  Any offset would cause them to rub now that I think about it.

I can pass my fingers over the tire and not hit the body anywhere.

so you have your 185/70/14 on 14" snowflakes? It doesn't matter if the wheels will require more torque to turn, its gonna be m-tdi powered lol. thank-you for your help :).

Yes indeed I do.  This is the look, and I have the Zender kit attached as well.  Forgot about that.  Blended it so nice with the paint job I forget it is an addition not stock.

do you have the stock springs? From 1981 I mean rather. that will account for some sag.

When i put on my 25mm drop sport springs it maintained the ride height i had from stock prior, the stock springs had settled an inch or more.

With 126K on this car I believe the rear springs are still stock and there is little to no sag.  Until I move the tool boxes to the rear of the car.  Normally I ride them in front or over the rear axle.

Yeah this car doesn't seem to have that normal butt dragging look that I have seen on other Rabbits.
