Title: 020 trans fluid level check.
Post by: trent77 on January 02, 2012, 11:50:09 am
Ok, I know I fill the trans with 2 qts. But to top off if I lose any, or just to check it, is there a plug to pull where the fluid should run out when full? I fill at the speedo cable hole, but it doesn't run out of there when full. Thanks for the help. It is a eco diesel trans on an aaz engine.. the trans is a 91. Thanks
Trent

depends on body style and trans. Eco trans should have the later 5th housing so you only add until it comes out, earlier style you add until it comes out and then shut it and add 4oz more.
All you ever wanted to know and things you don't is found here.

Would you believe 2.1Qts? 2 whole quarts and then 3.2 oz more.

for checking the angle of the trans dictates how to check, just filling to the "fill"  hole.............uhhhhhhhhhhh.....................hummmmmmmmmmmmm................     might leave the 5th gear a little dry.

Drain it all out, measure it and put it back in? Add if needed?

R.O.R.2-0 and I have figured out a way to read off the speedo gear as though it were a dipstick.

I do believe we figured half of the speedo mesh gear to be covered in oil was a full 020 trans. 2.1qt.

If my math is correct, not likely, that would make it exactly 2 liters, the metric system is a beautiful thing.

You wouldn't have to drain it all. If you have the old 5th housing you could just open the fill plug and let it drain from there until it stopped or slowed to a point that it is rediculous. Put the plug in and fill the rest from the speedo hole. I usually go the 4oz instead of the 3.2 as there is always some oil left in my measure and I don't think .8oz too much is as bad as anything low.
